Default 95 GC Transmission Shift issues, new TV cable needed

So I recently broke my trans kickdown cable attachment bracket. Before I attempted a repair using 100# steel fishing leader I was experiencing hard shifts and shifting at wierd intervals such as 2nd at 35, 3rd at 45 and 4th at 50 etc....

After I repaired the kickdown bracket I noticed it shifted really good, like it was supposed to. Then it started shifting hard again at 2nd. I noticed when the car was parked the kickdown cable was not retreating back into the tube. If I manually reset the cable by manipulating the pulley it attaches to on the transmission, it shifts like a new car at first then after a few stops it hard shifts in 2nd again. Each time the cable is not retreating back to idle or off position.

1) what would the most likely cause of this be? Old cable dried out causing resistance to return? Something inside the transmission where this lever
2) where can I buy a new cable from? I don’t care for repairs like the one I made and prefer an oem part to replace it.

I'd say one of the fine wires in the twisted cable has broken and it is catching inside the housing. The only cure for that is replacement. Try asking a transmission shop if they have a source.

adjustment is the most likely suspect, As Dave said anything affecting adjustment such as the cable snagging would also cause it. Adjustment is very sensitive even on a good cable and 1/8" can make a world of difference.

I’ve eliminated the cable as being the culprit. I’ve disconnected the cable from the trans, the lever it attaches to will remain. I’m guessing the other cable/rod that enters the trans is getting stuck inside. I’ve manually adjusted it by hand to try to loosen

I’m probably going to drop the trans pan to look at it, but not until I know what I’m looking for.

ps I’ve located a cable: mopar parts #52079204
