2000 4.7 Cat converter question
Hello Everyone. Newbie here.
I have a 2000 Gr Cherokee LTD with a 4.7. It has around 177,000 on the meter. The Cats are bad, no doubt but I am a bit confused and would appreciate the help. Although I am in NY, the car has CA emission controls. I am told that means two cats versus the one cat for Fed emissions. And the "third" cat in front of the muffler is basically a NOX scrubber, rather than a resonator as some have told me. Going OEM is out of the question, price wise. My shop, who I respect offered me an aftermarket piece, with warranty for one year, and will replace free of charge ( Labor) if it becomes defective for bout $1000 including install.
On the internet, I found a place willing to sell me the same piece ( pipes with both cats ) for about $470 ( 5 year warranty) and my guy would charge about an hour labor to put it in. About another $100. Some nice savings but I am concerned about the quality of some of these online places. Don't know if I am allowed to mention the URL here, but do any of you folks use a place that has been shown to be reliable? thanks for any help.

Welcome to CF.
I've never used anything except my local muffler guy. There's a Vendor on here that has a good deal on prices for catalytic convertors.
My '04 WJ w/the 4.7L V8 has 4 cats on it.
