I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee drove it 2 1/2 hours and was on empty... is this a normal type of gas mileage for these type of jeeps or anyway to get any kind of better gas mileage or ideas of stuff to start checking to get better mileage???

That's not an accurate method of measuring fuel economy.
Even when new they were not gas misers by any means. If there are no codes showing, other than a basic tune up it is what it is.

Yes more info needed on codes for sure and what V-8 do you have in your 2000 along with trans/transfer case/gears all make a difference. The 99-04 model years were in the same lineup I have an 04 "Overland" edition with the 4.7HO engine, I guessing you may have the 4,7 standard HP engine.


If your unsure of exactly what you have email Chy. and get a build sheet for it and it will give you a lot of details about what options, gears, etc. Unsure about yours but mine is full time 4wd with 3.73 gears and highway mpg runs about 18-20 @ 70 mph at best if that tells you anything.
