Hey everyone. Was surfin' the net to get a clue for a problem that just occured yesterday with my wife's '98 grand cherokee with a 5.2 in it.

I came to an intersection and it just died. No gauges work, just the idiot lights work. It cranks but won't start. The check engine light never came on. It just died. The power windows work.

Ok. I just went out to the jeep to see if the radio worked, cause I wanted to give as much info as possible. Well.....it worked too.

So I opened the hood and decided to check the fuses. I found a small 20 amp fuse blown. I replaced it and bingo, the gauges worked. I tried to crank it over and it fired right up!

So now that that's fixed, what in the world caused it to blow in the first place? And the fuse cover doesn't say what it goes to so I don't even know that!

Anybody want to buy a jeep?? I'll gaurantee it makes it out of my driveway,lol.....

Well it is 11 years old, sometimes fuse's go bad. Just keep a spare around and check all you battery connections and such for corrosion or shorts

any rust ? color and mileage ? Limited or Laredo ?

171,000 miles, minimal rust on the lip of the hood and hatchback. Color is silver. It's a limited.

Now can you tell me why the fuse blew?

Oh wait.......you're interested in it, right?

Thanks for the welcome guys. Pics would be up to my better half. She's the computor guru, not me.......


I could deal with sqeeks rattles and clunks. Fixing/finding electrical problems never was my thing. Hopefully that fuse was just tired and it's not a symptom of some problem I'm going to have to deal with.....
