You should stick with the original steel header because it's flow is quite good. Make sure your converter is clean and in good shape. Use a good low back-pressure muffler of your choice. The only way to get much more power from the 4.0 in original condition (bore, stroke, cam), is with the later intake manifold, larger throttle body, and relocating the IAT sensor to the air intake system somewhere before the throttle body. The 4.0 is what I call a tractor engine; that is, low speed torque and longevity. It's got good power off-the-mark but runs out of power after the mid-range. The more you screw around with it, the shorter it's life.
And remember, the transmission is far less than bullet proof.

Mine has great power at the top end too, it will get up over 100 and keep going. Not sure how fast because I have run out of numbers and haven't tried GPS or anyone keep up to see.

Oh, it will run fast, but it kind of runs out of torque above about 3500 rpm.
My Chevy 350 would spin to 6000, but I ran my best times shifting at 4000. That way, the next gear came in right in the middle of the torque band. Guys would tell me "You're shifting too early!" I'd say "Look at my ETs"
