1997 Grand tsi A/C problems

1997 Grand tsi A/C problems
I did a pretty extensive search but couldn't find anything like the problem I'm having; or it may be that I'm too stupid to know it, lol.
My son has a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee tsi and the air stopped working on it. I took it to a a/c guy and he wasn't able to test it because the access ports were an odd size? He says he's never seen anything like it in 30 odd years. Anyone have this problem or know about it?
