1997 Grand Cherokee Steering issue

1997 Grand Cherokee Steering issue
Pulled off the highway into rest area and steering locked up for a moment. It only lasted for a second so I don't know if it actually locked up or if I lost the power steering. My wife said it happend to her and she said it happend leaving the highway onto a exit ramp also. I have not been able to reproduce the issue. Any idea on where to start?
