1997 Grand Cherokee Brake Question

My daughter's car, been a labor of love getting it back on the road. Got it a few months back with what was thought to be a blown radiator. Turned out #2 piston had a hole in it. Oh well, good thing I had a replacement engine handy.

Was all ready to start driving it when I discovered the brakes were mushy. Found a bad leak in the line going to the rear axle. The leak is not far from the ABS module, under the hood, directly below the steering column.

Is this line available (not part of an entire kit)? If not, time for a tubing bender and flare tool?

Yup. Time to fabricate a new line. You may need to reuse the tubing nuts if it goes to the ABS unit. They are sometimes bigger than standard nuts. At least they are a standard double flare and not bubble flares. My advice is to replace any tubing that you need to with copper/nickel tubing. It's much easier to work with and will never rust. If they are standard tubing nuts, you can buy premade lengths and join them with a flare union. When I did mine, one of the pieces I bought was about 6" too long. I just bent it into an "S" shape around the neck of a beer bottle very slowly! The Cu/Ni is very ductile.

The flair going into the ABS unit IS a bubble flair!

Got a length of line, some fittings, and started bending. Got it from the ABS module to under the car, now to finish up and bleed.
