Default 1997 Grand Cherkoee Rearend noise

I experience a noise from the rearend of the jeep. The sound is simliar to a tailpipe hitting against the body. It comes and goes. I also hear a vibration that sounds like that of a loose converter shield. The exhaust system is solid and the shield is tight. This noise is not heard when the jeep is upon a lift. But quite clear when driving about.
Is there anyone with an answer?

I use to have that same problem. Where the exhaust goes over the trackbar is where it was hitting for me. There are ways to fix it but I just cut it after the muffler, bought a glasspack and a turn down and bought my local welder a 12 pack and he welded it up. No more banging.

Could be a blown out catalytic converter, and your hearing what is left inside rattling around.

No,
New converter.
However further inspection found the emergency brake shoes and hardware shot. The piece the cable attachs to was moving around. We're replacing today, will let the forum know the results.
