1996 Grand Cherokee 4.0 popping back thru TB/intake
I have replaced everything I know to replace(with Mopar parts). When it goes from 2nd to 3rd sometimes 3rd to 4th gear it will hesitate then pops back through the throttlebody/intake 1time and it is fine after that. It will ONLY do it again when you shut it off and go again. I’m beginning to think it the transmission. I have replace ALL sensors,computer,TB, distributor,cap, wires,plugs,fuel pump,fuel filter, and checked the ground wires. Any clues? 1st Jeep I have ever owned. Thanks Dwayne |
Check for codes with a scan tool then see what the TPS is doing. TPS can affect shifts and engine. Check for smooth signal through the range. Idle should be around 16% give or take. Not saying this is it but you asked for clues.

I guess I finally fix it. It was the upstream 02 sensor. Never got a code for it. I figured I had changed EVERYTHING BUT THAT so I did.

A cheap scan tool would have shown that and saved you a lot of money.

I have a 2 cheap scan tools and neither showed a code.

But you must not have looked at raw data when it was running, did ya? If it don't throw a code, it must be working, right?

I pretty sure it wasn’t working right even though there was no code. I changed it and all the problems went away. All I know is it’s fixed and I’m so glad. Thanks for all the help.
