Well, after my last post I thought that maybe with everything I took off and put back on that maybe the Jeep just kinda needed to reset itself (for lack of a better word). Went back to the shop last night and tried to crank it again. This time it turned over and ran for about 2 seconds and it felt very rough. I let it set for about another 10 minutes and tried again. This time it started and idled on it's on but it still felt pretty rough. I let it run for maybe 5 minutes. Turned it off, started it again and then moved it out of the shop. Once out of the shop it got to where it didn't want to idle on it's on. Was told by a friend to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and try again. Took the battery off for 10 minutes, started it again and presto - purred like a cat.
I guess the real story here is the starter rotor in the distributor assembly. I think this broke and was the real cause of my initial problem of no start, and no fire. Of course I changed much more than that on the Jeep but that's okay - it's probably stuff that needed to be changed anyway.
Maybe if someone else is having the same problem reading this thread may do them some good. Thanks to all who contributed!
I've already cleaned her up! Plan to go ahead and change spark plugs and wires today!
