1994 grand cherokee lift

i have a 1994 grand cherokee full time 4 wheel drive and id like to put a lift and im not sure what to get. Either to get a suspension or body lift. i want at least 31inch tires but i dont wanna spend more than $450 on the lift. Anyone know of any good lifts or has anyone made a homemade body lift and could give details about it? I also am looking into a locker for the front and rear and I found a new one off of jegs.com for 300ish but i wanted to know if anyone knows of another locker cheaper than that? I only do minor offroading but I would like a lift seeing how i do bottom out sometimes. Please give me any advise you can THanks

ill be the first to tell you there is no way you can get a body lift. it is a unibody which means your body is welded to the frame. but from what ive heard a 4 inch lift will fit 31's on a grand.

i looked at a 95 grand and it had a 4 inch and had 33s on it just needs

well the least expensive of course it the Budget boost, which you buy some 2" spacers and lift it that way. Next would be the one where you put your front springs to the rear and purchase new front ones. that gives about 3 to 3.5". it will require you to put in trac bar drop brackets. will easily handle 31s and maybe 33 with trimming. if you do some zj lifts searches you will find a lot of good info.

Be careful how you lift. I drove some lifted Grands when shopping and they rode liek crap. Floated all over the place and felt like they were gonna roll over. I think this is what happens with spacer only lifts, but not positive.

Nope, I added 2"BB to my 95 ZJ and fits 31s no problem. Handling issues could be a lo of other issues, Bad and worn control arm bushings, too much lift for short arm suspension. Bad shocks, low tire pressure. Maybe the swaybar isn't connected. Lots of things can make a lifted Jeep ride bad.

But spacers? Nope. Don't buy it.

When i put my spacers in the it did feel like it was "floated". But after sometime of driving it seemed to set it's self, and ride just fine now.

You were right the second time you take the front ones and put them in the back an get new ones for the front. There are kits you can get for the swap heres a link its a 3.5 inch lift

ok what do you guys recomend for a locking rear diff. ?

boardmanXJ 04-20-2009 10:09 PM

Here is my info I have found cause I am in almost the exact same situation as you...4wheeldrive hardware has a 4.5 zj lift for I think 550 which is only 50 over your budget...you would be able to clear 33s but I'm not sure on trimming the fenders...as for a locker...300 is about the cheapest I've seen, but that's just what I found
