1993 JGC
hi, i have a 1993 jeep grand cherokee, its 4wd all the time. When I was driving it, the transfer case broke off, it like cracked in half. so now the transfer case and drive shaft are messed up. But I can still drive the car around. Is there a way I can do a cheap quick easy fix on this thing? I was thinking what if i just pulled out the drive shaft, thus making the car 2wd. is that possible? i took the car to the mechanic and he said that I couldnt do that because the rear wheels are the one powering the car. I didnt believe him and decided I would ask someone here. Because right now the car drives, and the drive shaft is not connected to anything, so why not just rip it out and continue driving it?
i can take some pics if you guys need to see them.
thanks

If you remove the rear drive shaft with out a SYE you'll dump your t-case fluid all over the ground. And than lock up the t-case and do alot of damage to the vehicle...

whats a SYE? i really dont know much about cars. all kinds of oil spilled out when the transfer case broke. the mechanic told me that the oil in the transfer case is seperate from the other thing??? so i was lucky in that part.

SYE = Slip Yoke Eliminator it lest you pull the drive shaft with out loosing fluid.
Now yes it's separate, BUT you can still loose trany fluid, see as things move and shack the trany seals move and cause it to leak..
Plus if your t-case split, than there is no support for the front drive shaft.. Your going to have to replace your t-case. There's really no other way around it.
