Exclamation 02 grand cherokee has reverse but no drive

Sorry so long, just trying to give all details......
I have an 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.0 engine. Snow storm before Xmas, I was turning around in a neighbors drive way (at least where I thought it was) and put the front end in the ditch. Did'nt know it, but I cut the transmission cooler line. Drove about 2 miles to the other side of the community in 4 low due to snow and trailer. While going down a hill, I lost it and started slipping....or the tranny could have gave out at that time, not sure. Anyway, slid into a snow bank and tried to get it out. This is when I noticed that I did'nt have any forward gears what so ever. Not sure if maybe i put it in drive too fast after reverse or if it was already gone. Anyway, a few days later, discovered the leak on the line, replaced the line and added ATF. Still no drive, does'nt even try at all, 2hi, 4hi, 4low, etc. Reverse is fine. Linkage, gear shift cables, etc all in tact and moving. A friend told me to try the Transmission Control Module, TCM, I looked in my Haynes repair book but can't tell where it is exactly. Any other input is also greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

My Grand Cherokee workshop manual lists the following 7 possible causes (with remedy) for having reverse but no (forward) drive.

I would respectfully suggest you consider each, and eliminate them in turn until you have a fix.

1. Fluid Level Low.
Add fluid and check for leaks if drive is restored.

2. Gearshift Linkage/Cable Loose/Misadjusted.
Repair or replace linkage components.

3. Rear Clutch Burnt.
Remove and disassemble transmission and rear clutch and seals. Repair/replace worn or damaged parts as needed.

4. Valve Body Malfunction.
Remove and disassemble valve body.
Replace assembly if any valves or bores are damaged.

5. Transmission Overrunning Clutch Broken.
Remove and disassemble transmission.
Replace overrunning clutch.

6. Input Shaft Seal Rings Worn/Damaged.
Remove and disassemble transmission.
Replace seal rings and any other worn or damaged parts.

7. Front Planetary Failed Broken.
Remove and repair.

Hymie, thanks for the reply... I think your info is pretty close, was hoping to avoid dropping the trany, but it looks like that may have to happen. Thanks for your time and help.

If I were you, I would be hoping it was #1

I would make absolutely certain it was not due to a low fluid level before getting my hands dirty (best of luck).

Forgot to add – do not be tempted to overfill with fluid – otherwise you will be inviting more problems.
