Default 02 grand cherokee 4.7 low fuel pressure

I have zero fuel pressure when the key is turned on with no engine crank. When I crank the engine, it eventually builds to 16 lbs and starts, but dies right after. 5 tries later it will remain running, but roughly. Pressing the accelerator kills it unless I feather the gas pedal. It has a K&N intake tube added to it, and I can hear it sucking for dear life. When the key is turned on, I get 12 volts for less than a second at the pump(black and dark green wire), then it goes back to zero. Fuel pressure never reaches above 16, and only when I crank it, or its running. It had p0325, 171, 174, 442, 455. The 442 and 455 codes were a 1 trip. I attributed them to the gas cap. The lean condition (171, 174) were for the low pressure. After clearing the codes, running the engine for 15 minutes, then driving around the block, I have no more codes. My main concern is the voltage at the pump not maintaining 12 volts for more than an instant, and the fuel pressure not reaching above 16. The last thing is, after driving it around the block, the engine wont restart for 15 minutes or more. I'm stuck. Please help me out.

When you first turn the key on, the pump will prime the fuel system with pressure and then shut off. This is normal. However, low pressure is not. This is probably a bad pressure regulator on the pump, or the pump not delivering enough fuel to reach pressure. IMHO, it's pump replacement time. If the filter was plugged, the pressure would eventually get to max.

Welcome to CF!

Thanks for answering Dave. The fuel pump was replaced 4 months ago, but there's a gas smell in the back, inside the truck when the tank is full. I'm not sure the guys that fixed the pump did it right, so I'm dropping the tank this morning, and replacing the fuel filter that they didn't. I just assumed(wrongly it seems) that everyone did a filter with the pump replacement. I'll see what I find today when I drop the tank and let you know. Thanks again

While replacing the fuel filter I found a kink in the plastic fuel line. I straightened it out and TAH DAH!! I now have 49-50 lbs operating pressure at idle. Hope this helps someone down the line. Thanks again
