I have a fold down spare tire carrier similar to that and it is a pain to have to lower your tire every time you want to open your hatch. I am going to build a swing out into my bumper instead.

I know but I'm not posting pics until the paint's done. I don't want everyone and their mother yelling at me for not doing proper prep work and or painting outside in high winds and dust. It'll look good when it's done but until it is done I don't want to anger meticulous people and then fight with those same people about the proper way to paint a vehicle ie you probably shouldn't paint a vehicle in a sand storm.

I have a plan for the spare tire carriers to tie into something cool but I'm gonna wait until I actually buy them and see if they'll work before I announce it. Also since I've removed my rear seat I've only opened my rear hatch once and that was to pull the spare tire out.

Finally got a little extra cash to go get some more paint. I've decided to go with truck bed coating. Has a little texture to it so it hides flaws and it sets way faster than the undercoating. Currently in the middle of painting but the wind picked up so for now I have to wait.
