Default white 89 2dr build

hey everyone, my name is hadi im in the northern va area. im new to the site but not new to xjs. (but im definitely not an expert)

my love for xjs started when i was 16, after wrecking my first car, a 2001 pathfinder, my parents thought it would be best if they got me something sub $2000 so they bought me a 97 cherokee sport 4x4. after selling it for my current DD a white 2dr 2008 vw gti, i realized how much i loved it. ( i love my vw too but its a different world )

after a couple of years i bought a white 91 2dr drove it all winter it had 225k miles and ran like new. sold it in spring. regretted that a lot right after selling it.

in winter 2011 a year later i bought a black 4dr 88 xj that I did a BB for. traded it for a new nikon d700 ( $2700 value at the time) i did not regret that, because that started my career .

I got the itch again 2 months ago . i looked around for a while and found an 89 white 2dr with 164k miles on it. it has the AW4 np231 and dana 35 and 30... i think... i need to check.

the body is in decent condition with no signs of rust.

I am having an overheating issue taken care of , theres a thread for it here :
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/ren...eating-175516/

anyway, I plan on keeping this one and slowly restoring and building it. havent decided on life, but nothing more than 4.5 with 33s

here is a crappy cellphone picture:

Today i will be removing the carpet since it smells like wet dog. hopefully there wont be much rust.

I also realized that every mechanic I've been to has been more harm than good. from vw-audi specialty race shops, to dealers and gas station shops. the techs may know more than I do (sometimes they are worse than i am ) but they dont care about the car at all.
heres what the emissions station mechanic did when he replaced my RAD.
see the crack there. i also dont think that is my fan, looks different.

i just took the decision to do all the work myself from now on. unless it required expensive specialty tools

and heres a messy engine bay shot.

i got the carpet out this is what it looked like.
there are two small holes in the front about a half inch in diameter at the most. no need to cut and replace anything . going to sand it down tomorrow and primer it. then bedline it next weekend.

The center console was a PIA to remove because of the 4x4 lever. so i kept it and worked the carpet out from underneath it.

put the transfer case in neutral and it should be a lot easier.

Here is a picture of my other white 2dr vehicle. the goal here is to have a low 2dr car and a high 2dr car. both in white.
