What's a good build with $3k-5k budget?

I am going to college and I need to get a decent vehicle to drive. I have heard that jeep Cherokees are fairly durable and fun to have. Right now I have 3000-5000 to spend. What to you guys think I should get? I live in Maryland and have been looking through craigslist and such.

97-99 Jeep Cherokee would be a good choice.

Try and find one outside of the rust belt. If there is snow where the XJ came from, there will be rust in the floors, rocker panels, and trunk floor.

X2 in the 3k range. then use the rest for a lift, tires, tune up, & licensed!

Got my 2001 XJ for $2000. Runs like a champ and just needs a Lil body work. Mine is only a 2WD though. 4WD is going to cost you a Lil more
