Upgraded my CB situation

Absolutely humongous difference from the Cobra 19 that I was running before. The noise blanker is heaven! The sound quality is also very substantial as well.

I'm probably going to end up having to move it around on that overhead mount a little though due to another mod I did...

Changed out my axle ujoints. They were in such poor shape I surprised I didn't break one turning a corner on the street!

Reminds me of an XJ I was tempted to buy...sounded like it was munching on potato chips when turning, even in 2wd...lol

lol... I really should have done these sooner and shame on me for not. I was getting really bad "skipping" when making tight turns in parking lots. Lesson learned.

Yikes! At least they're done now. Yours has ABS?

No. The 96 I pulled them from had ABS. The tone rings actually ended up falling off as I was pounding on the shafts to get the u-joints out. So no more tone rings and no dust shields. Kinda convenient though.

Well ONE of my tires was going half bald and pulling to the passenger side pretty bad. I swapped it with the driver's side tire and it helped A LOT, but of course, I still had a half-bald tire.

A friend of mine posted about a friend of HIS selling a brand new 32" BFG for 50 bucks, so I jumped on it. I had pretty good sucess with removing the 235's I was borrowing off the rims (guy told me to keep the tires, but give him the rims back) so I figured, no sweat, I'll change it out myself.... yeah... flotation tires are a whole different story than passenger tires.

I started wrestling with this thing on Friday evening and managed to get the beads broke and the front bead over the rim... but the back was fighting me really bad. Of course, it didn't help that I had worked over night the night before and got about 2 hours of sleep during the day. I packed up all my tools, sit the tire in the garage and decided to try it again the next day...

Came out the next day, EMPTIED my bottle of dish soap into my water/soap mix bottle and SOAKED the thing. Then I grabbed my big crow bar and started beating the beads with the biggest hammer I had. Definitely would've been easier with a bigger hammer, but I finally the the wheel out..

Getting the new tire on took less time than removing the old one... but it still gave me a bit of a hard time. I didn't have time to take any pics of the new tire installed before getting called in for work, but I got it installed and drove it to work without incident.

Only thing that sucks is, all my tires are a 32x11.5r15.... the old ones are worn down so far they're only measuring about 30"... the brand new one measures about 31.5"... so it's about 3/4" taller on that one corner. But this is just to get me by for another month or so until we come back from our trip.... I've been authorized by "the boss" to by new tires.

lol... well, I say that, but I'm the one that does the budgeting. She's afraid to even touch it. It was more like us BOTH saying we're not going to buy anything extra 'cause we're saving up for our trip... and then her seeing the condition of my tires and saying "Okay, we really gotta get you some new tires once we get home"

She's pretty cool. As long as the bills are taken care of and there's not something we need MORE than something I need or want for the Jeep.... she doesn't care if I get it. She feels bad that I have to work so much so she doesn't get all neurotic when it comes to what we do with the income.

Heads up for next time, the Hi-Lift can be used to break the beads and remove the old tires. Lol

I did lol.... the front bead broke just fine. The back bead was lifting the Jeep off the ground! Then, once I finally got the back bead broke, it didn't want to come off the wheel. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times.... I HATE NANKANGS!!!

So here's how it sits now..

I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone do this as a permanent solution. The tire's are gonna wear funny on both sides, the Jeep pulls to the right, and well.... it looks funny lol

BUT, it's gonna get me by for a month or two until I can afford new tires. Then, I'll take off the BFG and use it as a spare. Balances great with Airsoft BBs though, I can say that much.

Heads up for next time... most local tire shops will change a tire for you for around $15 and that includes balancing... I've always seen it has money well spent.

That tire looks good on their though. Just a thought but a lot of JK guys sells their factory rims and tires cheap on Craiglist. You'll need wheel adapters but for on a budget it will get you a new set of 32s for about 1/2 price or less.
