Two XJs...but only building one

I sent away for a very detailed instruction book on how the C.B. should be installed. It had mentioned that when at all possible you want to use the body of the rig to ground to as it will be the best way to get the swr correct. I believe those kits were basically used for fiberglass vehicles. I run a ground from the antenna to the frame. Hopefully I will get it right.
Running a separate ground like you're talking is a great precaution.

Yeah, the instructions mentioned that you want the antenna tip around two feet above the roof to get the best results, where I am mounting mine will be close to that. I am purchasing a inexpensive Uniden C.B. It has great reviews and if I mess up I won't be out to much.

The XJ I purchased before this one (red one in the first post of this thread) had toggle switches running everything and a push button start that should have caught fire, melted, and took the whole Jeep with it...somehow it didn't. I changed all that out, re-wired the headlights at the front header panel, and put an aftermarket ignition in so it at least had a key...lol

Well I didn't break anything, the previous owner who didn't know what he had and was lied to by more than one person has once again shown he couldn't be bothered to verify anything before listing a rig for sale...
Front diff with no locker or evidence of welding
Rear with now broken welds on the spider gears...
So now the question is...do I just weld the rear again but do a better job? Do I grind away with a Dremel/stone the material and leave it open? Do I leave it alone and hope for the best changing the fluid more often?
I started this thread to get some opinions regarding what I should do. Take a look if you're facing a similar decision.
As for the front, I'll just be leaving it alone for now until we decide what we're doing.

I wouldn't leave it like that.
Spend the money on a Spartan, or Yukon mech. locker and be done with it.
Otherwise, I'm jealous of the snow wheeling. It looks like fun.

X2 as long as the spider gears are free to move around now. Aussie Locker is a active vendor on the forums here.

Also, snow wheeling was a ton of fun :-)

At worst if you need new spider gears I'm sure someone in the group you were in has or knows someone that has a set from a locker swap.

Well the "repair" didn't get to far. After I started grinding on the left over material I noticed that some of the spider gears were missing teeth...so not just welded material like I had originally thought. Teeth had broken off in the welds transferred from one tooth on rotation to another as the welds broke...lol
After having some long discussions with my father about the spider gears, the affect the broken teeth/welds will have, and his experience dealing with this exact issue before I'll be running it like this until I can hunt down a locker or possibly pick up some spare spider gears from someone else. The jeep is back on the ground with the diffs cleaned out and fresh fluid at this point.

Just a quick update guys.
Went out to the TSF for a new years run a few weeks back (with the rear end the way it is) and everything went well. Had a blast in the snow and met some other XJ folks that were great to wheel with.
Here are the better of the pictures I got today (crappy tablet camera...sorry)
This one makes my Jeep look like an RC crawler or something...funny focus ;-)
At this point I'm just saving to buy a locker, wheeling and dealing where I can and putting together plans for other things as money allows (front bumper, sliders)
