Trail Rig build "Close Enough"

Ive been a lurker on here for a long time. figured a build thread hopefully itll make me a little more active on here.

its lifted about 5 inches on 33s and i plan on leaving it this way (for atleast while)

i have no real major plans or set guidelines but i will be exo caging it with 1 1/4 pipe and fixing my rear tubs/comp cut. everything else will be done as a feel like it.

im nick naming this build "close enough" because nothing on this truck is perfect, and never will be. it gets pretty old seeing all these perfectly build rigs will all this money dropped into them. mine is the opposite of that. this is a rig thats built to be BEAT. and as CHEAP as i can.

didnt do much this weekend, i patched some panels under the rear seat, plating the frame with 1/4 plate. and figured i should drill some drain holes in my 2x6 tie ins. i am a little worried about them filling with water then freezin

started cutting out the driver side. then pulled the tank, i knew my frame was bent/damaged but it was a little worse then i thought. i plated the inside of the rails and plugged up the hole in the frame for the filler neck. im going to just route it through the floor for now.

still dont know what to do about springs/shackles in the rear. right now it has 3 inch blocks. im not flipping the leafs but i wanna move the axle back. i guess the plan is to just leave them for now finish the tubs so i can atleast wheel it some.

guinelle1 09-07-2015 05:00 PM

looking at the pictures it doesnt look like i have factory leafs, or some sort of bastard pack? im not sure the truck came with the lift. like i said it does have 3 or 3 1/2 in blocks (cant remember now)

guinelle1 10-11-2015 05:05 PM

lil more work done to her.. ended up scoring some dodge dakota leaves for a good price, so i decided to just swap the whole leaf with shackle relocater's. i would assume i gained about 4 inch of lift with the relocation brackets and the dakota shackles. although i dont really know. it sits good now, the shackle angle sucks balls but i can move the shackle boxes to the slotted holes later and fix that.

the leafs seem ok. they will flex better with the right shackle angle, or longer shackles. overall im happy with the longer spring. i opted to weld the brackets to my hitch since the hitch is already welded to the frame. i broke one weld nut in the process.

work has been pretty busy and ive been doing some side job doing floorpans on a cherokee so havnt done much to it... i painted the rear "bed" with herculiner, and had to rebuild my air tank mounts for the 3rd time now. i plan on painting the tank tan to match the interior. did some other little crap to it too not really worth mentioning,
im really happy with the rear now and i can move onto bending some poop pipe now...
