Steve O's 91 XJ Build
2 Attachment(s)
Hello all, I am new to CF. A lot of good info on here. Thumbs up!! I recently purchased a 91 Cherokee Limited 4WD Auto. I am from So Cal and new to XJ's and Jeeps in general. What I've learned so far is that I have a AW4 trans, 242 transfer, D30/D35 combo, and the 4.0 HO L6. It has just over 200K on it. It runs like a champ though. I did some minor tune up things like oil, air, fuel filter changes, plugs, and plug wires. (Also replaced the taillights/passenger side was cracked as you can see in the pic) I was really surprised that it passed smog but it did. Anyways. What I'm aiming for with this is to have some type of mild LCOG vehicle on 33's for minor trailing and camping. I'm on a budget so it will probably be a slow build but I want to post the transformation as it happens. I have just purchased a RC 3" AAL lift for start. (I know its not the greatest....LOL) Eventually I want to add some Clayton LA's when I have the $$. Here is a pic of the beast and the lift I ordered. Cheers!!

Looks pretty good for it's age :thumbup1:
Be prepared to hear all about how you need to upgrade the axles before you do anything fun, though. You should be fine to roll on 31's for now with your 3" lift. |

So it begins today. Finally got a little time to get started. Removed old front shocks and stock coil springs. Also removed inner front fender linings to prepare for cutting.
|
Looks like a solid start. I did the RC 4.5 with AALs and it rides pretty rough so be ready for that haha.

Installed a new steering stabilizer and got the driver side coil in. The coil was a pain in the @$$!
Am I the only one who chunked up the powder coating on the coil trying to wrestle it in??? I used a coil compressor and a jack under the axle. Still was a pain! |

Got the drivers side coil in and started connecting the sway bar links. They don't seem to be lining up very well.

Got everything at the front installed now. Still need to torque everything to spec. Also thinking about getting an adjustable track bar. It's not off by a lot but it's off. On to the rear now!!

Started on the rear today. Removed old shocks, u-bolts, clips and center pins on leafs, and started to install the AAL's.

For track bar I would look at Iron rock off road double shear track bar.
I just installed it on my xj with 3in lift fit like a glove and fixed the bump steer problem I was having it's like driving a different jeep. And customer service is top notch. |
