Well I figured I might as well bring you guys along for the ride. Like I said in my intro thread I've been a marine for 8 years now. I have ongoing medical crap going on and have finally healed up enough to work on this myself. I picked up this '87 XJ for a great price. It already had the 3" BDS lift on it with wheels and tires. Owner couldn't get it to run smooth and it would die at intersections and what not. It's exhaust was also shot from the cat back.
That is the shape it was in when I got it and here are some pics.

My first thought was it was the fuel filter or pump but plugged it in and was glad I did. Turns out it was the Throttle Position Sensor that was completely dead so I got that changed out and was able to get a steal of a deal on a brand new cat. So got them installed and she runs great!!!

Nice!

I've got an 87 two door.

Got pics of the suspension? What wheels are those? What's the rear like? Stiff?

I tore all the carpet out the other day and got everything sanded down. I got some herculiner I wanted to try out. I didn't get any pictures of all the prep work for it but I do have some of the finished product. Also got a pic of the shiny new cat lol.

It is actually very nice riding! I was amazed how great it rides honestly. Here are some different pictures I got just right out back of the house. I am hoping after my Ankle Surgery this upcoming Wednesday I can find the time to get some real wheelin in. These pics are all before I got the fenders tore off.

pics of mini flex with fenders off.

I bet you'll get a huge amount of flex if you remove the sway bar and get longer shocks.
:shifty:

I can unseat and pull a coil on mine.

Here are the prep pics of the roof and roof rack I am building. I got the roof all sanded down. I plan on herculining it as well. The herculiner I put on the floor had held up great! Anywho here are the pics of the prep of the roof and part of the roof rack laid out. I should get it welded tonight!

Thanks for the tip. I plan on getting quick disconnects but hadn't thought about the shocks! I forgot to tell you the wheels are Pacer Wheels.

Nice, I got AR767s, 33" bald off brand mud tires, and 31" Bridgestone dueller ATs.

BDS lifts are awesome. I wheel the hell outta mine, I just wish the rear was a bit more flexy. I'll be going with shakles or shakles and sliders as soon as I am able.

Got the Roof Rack welded and mounted last night. I am still waiting for my herculiner to get in though. It was so late when I finished I didn't get it all sanded down and prepped for the liner so still looks a little rough. Here is how it looks so far.

sneekeepete 07-25-2011 02:25 PM

Still waiting for the bed liner to get in for the roof and rack. Hopefully it gets here before Wednesday cause I get surgery on my ankle which is really going to limit my ability to work on this build.
I did get the cheesy trailer hitch taken off along with the rear sway bar.

This looks like a clean jeep and a good deal. That rack looks like its gonna hold whatever you need it too as well.
Good luck on the surgery hope all goes well.

sneekeepete 07-25-2011 04:23 PM

Thanks for the well wishes. I am pretty bummed that I will have to put everything on hold. It will allow me to save up some money though.

Gee oh Dee 07-25-2011 04:28 PM

Good luck with the surgery.
