Simple Green

Here we go again;

So I sold my super badass, awesome, amazing, and spectacular MJ. For no reason.

Also known as Mistress Moneypit,

Goodbye. I'll miss you. :(

So now I have to start over.

This is what I got. A 1994 Cherokee Country. 4.0 AW4 231 30/8.25.

I picked it up for $1000. Blower, turn signals, radio, and interior lights were all non-functional. 199,000 on the clock, clear title and the original owner.

With my little bit of money left over, I bought this:

This build will definitely be a little different than the last. The plan for this one is to keep it Simple. (Hints the name, Simple Green) The plan is as follows, upgrades using OEM parts to keep reliability up and cost down, lift it ~2", 31" or 32" tires, clearance what I can, and armor up. I'd like to build everything for it my self. I'd also like to swap in a 242 case if I can score one for cheap. I want this Jeep to be nice, and calm enough that my wife can load the baby into it and go to the store, and tough enough that I can beat it up in the woods for a weekend and drive home undamaged.

That's the plan right now, we'll see how it evolves.

Sounds good man! Can't wait to see it finished.

I like your thinking, simple. Can't wait to see the build.

So I spent the first day with my Jeep cleaning it up. Gave it a good wash, then cleaned the interior.

You can see I removed all the lame motorcycle stickers the PO had on there. I also ditched the hacked together trailer wiring, and poof the turn signals started working! I also replaced the resistor pack for the blower motor and it worked for a few minutes then it stopped. So I believe the motor is causing that, I'll grab one from the u-pull-it next time I'm there and hopefully that fixes it. Other than that, everything is working now, even the cruise control. :icon_cool:

i would have kept those stickers.

So I spent another day tinkering around with the XJ today.

I took off the smashed front bumper:

I ditched the rear swaybar:

I also degreased/cleaned the engine bay.
Before:

After:

I removed the silencer from the intake for an extra 35 horsepower. Its a little rough because I just ripped it out with pliers.

(In this pic you can also see I relocated the Vacuum football, just behind the airbox.)

In my MJ I had a bed-mounted toolbox for straps and various tools. So for my XJ I'll be using this ammo box. It works good, and looks badass.

why would you sell that beauty????????

Nice build start!!! Now tell me more about this intake silencer thing. What's it's purpose? Where do I find it? How do I get it out? And does it really make that big of a difference in hp?
