Rough Country 3" install?
Ok, so I have purchased a RC 3" lift for my Cherokee and need some help. I have been told that RC does not have instructions like they have as a pdf for the 4.5". So I am reaching out for some help. I have most of the tools to get it done but, I am not sure about the steps where to start, etc. I have PB Blaster and am going to start using that for the next few days so when it gets here I will be ready to get the bolts out. Any help you all could provide would be great. Thanks

I can tell you this...they include instructions for the AAL in the AAL box. if you got an AAL throw away the instructions immediately!
if I were to do the 3" again....id DL the instructions for the 4.5" and skip the shackle, and LCA, tcase drop, and other parts you dont need install sections. |
Step 1: LOAD UP EVERY NUT AND BOLT WITH PB BLASTER!!!!!
Step 2: Lay out all of the parts on a table to make sure everything is there. It should have a parts list. If not here is a rough idea of what come with a 3" lift: 4 shocks, 2 coil springs, 2 leaf springs (or 2 AAL's and 2 pins and 4 clips), and if you got the series II kit: lower control arms and sway bar drop brackets. Step 3: Pop your hood and support it. Support the front of the vehicle so the tires are off of the ground. Block the rear wheels and set the E-brake. Step 4: Remove front wheels. Step 5: Remove the Sway bar link bolts. Step 6: Remove shocks (2 on bolts on axle, 1 nut in engine bay.) Step 7: Remove track bar bolt on axle. Step 8: Remove coil spring. Step 9: repeat 4-8 in reverse. Step 10: Put wheels back on, lower Jeep. Step 11: Raise rear of Jeep, block front wheels, remove rear wheels. Step 12: Loosen u-bolts Step 13: Remove shocks (2 bolts on top, 1 nut on bottom.) Step 14: Remove bolt on shackle and on body. Step 15: Remove u-bolts Step 16: Remove spring Step 17: Repeat steps 12-17 in reverse Step 18: Replace wheels lower vehicle Step 19: Stare in awe at the beautiful Jeep Step 20: Go get an alignment Step 21: Get a set of 31"x10.5" tires 15"x8" wheels |
X2
I put on the same lift for my XJ, the only problems I had was with the upper bolts on the rear shocks. On all four bolts the heads twisted right off.... I tried drilling it out(fail), a guy in my club suggested center punch and BFH to just break the welded on nut inside(fail), so I just had a buddy weld on new bolts and so far its held up. Another guy said to use a circle saw and cut above the bolts and then cut them, but I didn't want to cut holes in the XJ. yet... |
Ok, great this is some ver helpful info. As far as the PB Blaster is there anywhere that lists what bolts I need to hit? I am pretty sure what I need to do just don't want to miss anything. Thanks

It doesn't really say but I just soaked every bold on the suspension that was coming off. Shocks, Ubolts sway bar discos (don't know what to call the stock ones) lol. Umm the steering stabilizer and control arms are good too if you need to drop the axle to get the front springs in. I had to because even compressed didn't have quite enough room to get them in there.

Just count on shock bolts breaking I feel lucky as only two broke off drilled them out and re tapped the threads.
Tap dye set a must along with a torch to heat up some nuts maybe (I had to) Patience as it will take some time... but not to bad |
