The one that I refer back to the most is probably Dukie564's build

Lots of homebrew goodness in there.
Thanks guys! Now I have plenty of reading to do.

Nothing much fun lately, just a lot of regular maintenance stuff. Some of the regulars here know my woes, but for those that don't, here goes...

Heat has been BAD here this summer. As a result, my cooling system decided it would be a good time to mess with my mind.

Now, I had a problem at KOH this last year, found my efan was completely frozen. Legged it home, replaced, and it was better, but noticed it was running ever so slightly higher once the heatwaves hit. Had a close encounter one day, and decided to flush the system. Again, better, but still not where it normally runs.

When I did my flush, I picked up a new rad just in case. Kept it even after the flush seemed to fix my issue...just in case. Glad I did. The rad was the only component in the cooling system not recently replaced...

Anyways, I started having a squeak on startup, that went away after about a minute or so of warming up. Tried tracking it down, but it went away so fast, I never did nail it down...until one day after a fluid change, I noticed the HB was wobbling...knew it was an issue, but money is tight, so put it on the back burner.

Fast forward to the most recent events...ran to the store one day, and threw the belt right around the corner from my house. Was able to leg it home, however it spewed coolant all over the driveway, and knew it was time to replace the HB. Figured while I was in there, I'd do the rad at the same time.

So, long story short, I replaced the HB, belt, rad, lower hose, and got a new mechanical fan shroud as mine was busted up. Oh, and I forgot to mention that during all this, my cat started making noise on startup too, sounded like rocks in a dryer, haha...so got a new one of them as well...

All the things are now good. Needs tires out back. I have a single Cooper STT...which they don't make anymore. So the current dilemma is finding a single STT or just keep the one I have as a spare, and get 2 new Pros. Also need a new catback exhaust sometime in the future, but not pressing, no smog for a year and a half...and thinking about finally doing a bored TB....

Anyways, that's where I'm at.

I agree, and tire folks do this a lot. Come out with a new model, or stop making it in a particular size...forces you into buying new tires. At a higher cost. Such a PITA.

I've had 3 sets of STT's. Love 'em. Starting to look like I need to phase in the STT Pros. Which means buying 2 tires right now, instead of just one. SMH

So I just bought some Cooper MTP tires from DiscountTire. They were supposed to have the STT Pros but couldn't get them in time so I went with the MTP. Basically the same tire just a lot cheaper. Wheeled them the next day and they did great.

The guy at discounttire said that the MTP is made for them and is their version of the STT Pro.

Except the MTP is a 2-ply sidewall and the STT Pro is 3-ply. The compound is also different.

Let me know if you can tell the difference. I know my wallet can tell the difference between the two.

Here is a good post about the two tires.

You can tell the difference as soon as you go playing around in the rocks. Trust me, I know all about purchasing tires with a wallet... I'm running Treadwright Tires. I also know Roni.... he's not going to settle for anything less than 3-ply sidewalls.
