Long time no chitty chat......it's been a brutal summer......
Happy Labor Day, it was 102* in the shade here two days ago,today.......62*......it's time to labor!!
The Felony's refurbished unibody stiffeners have been laying under it for more than a month, it's a good day to install. This system is over 10 years old, I removed the slyder portion as I'll be tubing out the rotted lower rockers instead.....I simply sandblasted and repainted them, they look great for their age.
Reinstall is simple, I redesigned the front connection for the long arms.
I wont go into crazy detail, but heres the final install....
Still early, I'm going to attempt to finalize my dual e-brake set up next....

The stiffeners are "sub-frame connection'" style, they run parallel with the unibody and get plug welded on either side of the unibody seams and at the new front connection, they do not wrap but some folks have run 3/16" x 4" flat bar along the bottoms connecting the base of the stiffener to the base of the unibody. The design has been around since the late 60's, the system is transferable, this is actually the second XJ these have been mounted to.......
Heres a quicky............
Clean unibody were to be plug welded......
Plug weld after correctly positioning.....
Once cooled.....prime weld area and push cap in place.....
The rear connection is a fork connection, actually helps reinforce the front portion of the leaf spring connection.

Explained alot actually. Is there anyway you can post a pic when/if you have time of the rear connection? Im not understanding the for connection on the spring pad in the rear. Does it just sandwich between the bolts and spring mount?

Thanks for the pics of the fork connection now I see how they mount and can definently see how they increase the strength of the body by tieing everything together.
One question I have though is since we have alot of rocks on the west coast and Rubicon is only a little bit away from me (its one of the main trails I want to conquer lol) Can sliders still be mounted along side of the subframe connectors?
I'm sure they would need the mounts reworked some or maybe mount directly to the stiffners but is it an advisable move?

If you already own slyders, the out-riggers would be reduced by 1.5".

Got to work abit on the Felony......rear shocks remounted for the last time, rerouted the ARB air line, drilled & tapped axle for the vent....not as much as I wanted to get done, but every little bit!!

As of Friday... On order! Mark laughed at me when I asked if I could get them in red. Inside joke. I'm getting the slyders so stiffys and rocker protection.
