heater core is not fun but its not that bad. Took me 3 hours to do my evaporator. Be glad you ordered that also as it is a common failure. I didnt do the heater core because im cheap and like i said i can have it done in 3 hours whenever it goes out. I just lowered the steering column and you can leave the pass air bag installed also. Then moved the dash out of the way and slid the hvac box out of the passenger side. I did pull the front seats for more room. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip's , 3 hours is very fast, I will start pulling mine Saturday tomorrow, we will see how it goes.
I made a tank to suck the Freon out , but I cant find my 134 gauges , I think I loaned them to my brother . he never brings anything back LOL . I will pick up some R134A Quick COUPLERS Adapters and convert my R-12 gages to 134 for now .

well i am a flat rate mechanic so fast is the name of the game. I also had striped another XJ 2 years ago so kinda knew how it went. Should be no problem with your skills. Good luck and just think when you are done there isnt much left you can replace

Heater core went well , getting the main air door to line up was a pain , so I found a drill bit that fit in the end of the shaft it's hollow about 2" deep drilled a hole in the case then it was easy to guide it in . added 20 oz of 134a and 6 oz of oil with UV dye just in case . Ice cold air , priceless !!

I finely got my smittybilt gen2 xrc 9,500 lb winch . I have seen a video on utube that said that he was having trouble with the Solenoid going bad, because the ground wire was to small so I used large battery cable for the ground . and they have a old style short 2 amp glass fuse inside the control box that will make it hard to trouble shoot , so I went to a blade style fuse holder outside of the control box with a fuse that has a diode in it, so it will light up when the fuse goes bad,I like it !! . Then we have the fair-lead, not very HD to say the lest . it is thin pipe with plastic bushings , I dont know how long that will last . I looked around and found one from BA Products part # 17-1BN . heavy duty steel made for wreckers , it has oil light bronzes bushings the frame looks twice as thick as the smittybilt one, and it has a spring loaded upper roller to keep the cable wound neatly on the drum . another nice thing is the bolt holes lined up perfectly 10" on center

I thought it might be a good idea to take some extra fuel when I am out in the middle of nowhere , but putting it inside seems like a bad idea, so I ordered a smittybilt rear bumper with tire carrier got a smoken deal on ebay 550.00 delivered . the install went well, sprayed everything in pb blaster didn't brake any bolts , cool !! holes did not all line up well but a rotary file helped out. The right side was right against the body I had to put a shim between the body and the mount so their would be a gap . and three 5 gallon gas cans latter I found one that would fit , tryed a NATO can but it would not fit , I ended up with a old style USMC gas can their get hard to find .

I did the front bump stops a wile back, Now I am finely getting around to doing the rear bump stops . I had some 3/8 plate laying around so I cut it 5" X 8 1/2 round it in the front used the same 3" X 1" pucks I used for the front bump stops , nothing real hi-tec but it should work , I added a bolt on the bottom with a coupler nut so the plate would not bend if I bottom out hard.

Thanks for sharing your build with us. Give an update on the 4.7 if you don't mind. I'm getting ready to start my own build including building a 4.7. I'd love to get your impressions.
Thanks,
Dan

your right so I went out and played in the rain , this thing is a blast , tho it took forever to get it clean , and it seems a bit low geared . The rear lift gate dose looks bad gold, So I picked up some Dupli-color perfect match from jegs, taped it off and and sprayed it green. I had a gallon of clear lacquer and some slow thinner from another project, mixed it up 50/50 and put in my small paint gun , and clear coated it . It looks good from a far , but it is far from good HA HA , at lest it is not gold

I tryed to find out why my windows and door locks were having problems , and tracked it down to the door jam wires and a bad window lock out switch "drivers side window switches " and the passengers side window switch that has the master control door lock relay in it , and of cores bad speaker wires .
So I soldered and heat shrinked everything backed together .
bought from Ebay
Driver side window switch 06372562690 117.48
Passengers side window switch 56009451AC 36.76

So now that I have repaired the door jam wiring my other 3 speakers are working , or should I say they are blown and sound like s--t .
Time for a sound system overhaul . I did not want to get crazy on a sound system , But I do want to be able to play my ipod . So I picked up a Remanufactured Upgraded and Fully Serviced factory Mopar stock radio with AUX in added . I like it !! easy plug and play
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-1999-Ch...72.m2749.l2649

Ebay remanufactured 225.00 with a 25.00 refund when you return your old raido , they even sent a shipping sticker, postage payed . so it was just 200.00 free shipping .
and for speakers I went with Rockford fosgate prim 5.25 in the doors and 6.50 in the back, and i must say they sound very good , I am happy with them .
Ebay Rockford Fosgate R1525X2 Prime 5.25-Inch Full Range Coaxial Speaker - Set of 2 39.69
Ebay Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Full-Range 3-Way Coaxial Speaker (Pair) 38.09
