The red rocket

After buying my son an XJ, the bug hit again....
After months of searching, I found one cheap enough for me to lay my hard earned down. Found this on Gumtree: Attachment 313182 Attachment 313183 $1500 with current rego, It was 2 hours from home, so last weekend my brother and I made the long trip to Ballarat to pick it up. I was told that the previous owner had been using it daily until his other car got built and registered, so hoped it would make the long trip home without requiring to be towed. Specs as it sits: 96 Sport Preupdate Leather seats Duel fuel (not currently running on petrol) 31" mud tyres 2" Budget boost lift with sagged stock springs ARB non winch bar Kaymar rear bar with single wheel carrier Custom sliders and probably much more that I have forgotten The good news is it made it home, it needs a fair bit of work, but has current rego. The needs to be done now list: Remove hideous front guards and replace from failed guard chop Remove hideous PVC snorkel and pod filter, fit proper air box and snorkel Get it running on petrol Rebuild/Replace front tailshaft that is missing (but in the back) Give it a tidy up and once over The wish list: 4" lift 33's Bushwackers Front and rear lockers etc etc Winch bar But seriously, if it turns into a piece of crap, I can pull the rear bar off and fit it to my sons, sell the rest and make my money back The previous owner was obviously over it, when I picked it up he told me I would need a ute to take all the spare parts that come with it. This included front gaurds First fitted the gaurds: Attachment 313184 I'm still going through all the spares in the back but have found some parts still new in unopened packages |

Jacked up the car last night to fix a puncture, found the R/h/f wheel about to fall off due to a collapsed wheel bearing.
Never fear, there's a brand new one in the back, unopened. That explains that part in the back. Removed and replaced the bearing, fixed the puncture, all good now!!! Cleaned up a lot of wiring, people that use speaker wiring to wire up spot lights should be shot by the way. When I drove her home, the heater wasn't working and the temperature gauge wasn't working, I thought they were both related until I found a vacuum line off the heater, then investigated the temp gauge and found a broken sender (the one in the back of the head) Ordered a new sender this morning, but now the heater works!!! Brought a roof rack and awning, so fitted that today: Attachment 313181 The flat section at the back is built specifically to take a space case The 31's that were on it hit everywhere and I can't get full lock, so today I bought a set of 15x8 black d windows, just need to work out if I use the recap mud terrains already on it or buy new tyres. Still trying to tidy it up for a RWC, got it running on petrol, a relay was wired incorrectly blowing the ECM fuse. Replaced the rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders. I have been emailing Iron Rock off-road about adjustable control arms and waiting on an invoice, all the bushes in the factory arms are no good so may as well replace the whole arms with intending to lift it later |

Pulled the pin and ordered adjustable arms from Ironrock, was pretty happy, 5 days from the U.S. To Australia Attachment 313178
Brought an auto locker for the front diff Attachment 313179 Picked up some secondhand Bushwacker flatties today Attachment 313180 Secondhand bits don't come up too often over here, so when they do you have to be quick! |

Got an unreal deal of on a Dana 30 and a Ford 8.8 these will get built slowly with 4.56 gears and lockers, I'll put the auto locker in the existing diff and go air lockers on the built/trussed diffs Attachment 312992
Dropped the car off to get my front bar made. |
great start.
you're moving right along... you'll have it done in no time. |

Picked up the diffs this arvo, look to be in ok shape.
Have a stack of parts waiting to go on once I get the car back from getting the front bar made, still need to make headlight hoops but here's a teaser: Attachment 312762 Thanks Caged, it's coming together slowly, but running out of money |

Same issue with loud grinding
Just picked up my first Cherokee. Sold my CJ7 5 years ago and had to get back in an older Jeep. The Cherokee I found had 163K on it but had sat in a garage for 10 years. Body is in terrific shape and the owner had put a lot of parts in it to bring it back to running, though I know there is still some work. First thing right off the bat was a loud grinding sound when starting off. It's an automatic. As soon as it shifts up into 2nd....all quiet. I have heard so many different ideas but these are all good. Any other info would be appreciated as if I cant find anything wrong in the pumpkin when I check it out, I will be forced to look at the tranny. but, first the motor mounts and muffler.
