Alright guys, here we go again.
I finally found the 2-door, 4x4, 4.0, 5-speed that I've been hunting for forever. My plans were to go XJ shopping out of town today. That changed yesterday morning when I stumbled upon the Jeep I've been searching for. I was just driving by this little car lot and seen it sitting off to the side. I seen it was 2-door so I turned around to take a look, even though I thought it looked like a 2WD. I seen the 4x4 emblem, crapped myself. Seen the 4.0HO emblem, crapped myself. Then I looked in the window and seen the shifter and crapped even more.
I waited around 45 minutes for the lot to open only to have the owner tell me it wasn't ready to sell yet. He said the window regulator was broke and the exhaust from the cat back was missing. I asked if I could still have a look, he said sure. I had already spent 45 minutes on the lot by myself inspecting it so I was basically faking it at this point. I made small talk and asked if he would consider selling it as it sits. He said I suppose I can. I asked to take it for a drive, and he threw a tag on it. Ran great, even though the exhaust was obnoxiously loud. I returned in about 10 minutes and asked the guy what kinda money he needed out of it. Long pause........ thinking......thinking.....it seemed like 6 hours.... $900. Nine-hundred-bucks. If I hadn't already crapped out all my crap, I would have then. I tried to contain my excitement as I quickly pulled out the cash before he changed his mind.
Here she is just after purchase:
I will probably build this similar to my red 4-door XJ. It will be a mild, budget friendly, expedition style rig. I may go 4.5" with 33's rather than 3" with 32's. Most likely it will depend on what kind of deals I can find. Those of you who follow the Project: Zombie Response Jeep build will see some similarities, especially early on.

Today was a beautiful day here in Ohio so I quickly got to work.
First I got up early and made a trip to the local exhaust shop.
Next I removed the door trim and started in on those rusty old wheels.
I was making decent time. I think I had 2 coats plus clear on the wheels by 1 or 1:30. I went to the store after some scuffing pads and stopped by the family business for a stack of old newspaper.
I previously had a bad experience with spray on bedliner, but I chose to give it another shot with better prep work.
Props to 3M painters tape for the perfectly straight edge.
Well that's enough for today, this took me about 8.5 hours and 6 or 7 beers.

I managed to get a few things done today. After a nice round of golf I came home and installed a headunit. It was missing one altogether. I also debadged the fenders and hatch. Gives it a much cleaner look. Here's some pics:

So it's pretty much base model 4x4 from the factory. Good thing to build off. You getting rid of the "idiot cluster"? Full clusters from then are easy to find.

I picked up a free cargo mat yesterday. A friend of mine pulled it from an old Burban he junked. He told me to haul it away and it was mine. It took a little trimming, but surprisingly fit really well.
My O2 sensor came in yesterday. After fighting with breakers and jack handles, trying to pry the old one off, I finally ran to the store and bought a propane torch. It came off really quick with the heat. I'm running out of small cheap mods. I'm scratching to splurge on a lift now.
