Project XJ

I am building up my 99 XJ. I bought It new in 2000 and put 40,000 miles on it. Since then, I have changed the motor to a GM 5.3 Vortec 327ci, 4.5" IRO long arm, dana44 wagoneer axle front, and ford 8.8 rear. The axles are equipped with ARB air lockers, 4.88 gears, and chromoly axle shafts. I am running 36" Q78 super swamper tires. Other than that, she is pretty much stock. My next step is to completely cut the body off, and put a mini-van body on it, as my wife has been complaining about the lack of 3rd row seating for the kids. Has anyone cut the body off of a cherokee? I have a plasma cutter, but I am not sure where I am going to attatch the body mounts for the mini van body. I am getting the body from my wifes 2001 honda odyssey.

since the cherokee's are unitbody.... theres really no clear point to cut the body away from. with as much custom fabrication your looking into doing, i'd say take your running gear from the cherokee and some how swap it straight to the odyessy, if really serious about it

Why would I do that? the XJ is already set up and dialed for wheeling, and has a way better motor and drive train. I seriously doubt cutting off a body with a plasma cutter and swapping it, and welding brackets is harder than swapping the motor, tranny, drivetrain, not to mention the odyssey is unibody too. I am going to make it a frame on body. Has anyone ever done a frame on body fab for an XJ? That is essentially what I am doing.

are you kidding?

MVDCXJ 11-15-2010 11:41 PM

Am I missing something? So you supposedly did all this work to a XJ and now want to put a minivan body on it for "3rd row seating"? Bit far fetched if you ask me.

Got any pics of this XJ?

He's gotta be either kidding, or lying.

In ten years you never noticed the lack of a frame?

You cant cut the body off something that doesnt exist..

Me thinks someone is trolling, my BS meter is pegged.

Cut the body off both of them. re-inforce/fully box the uni-body on the XJ. do the same for the odyssey. You guys obviously have never tried using cutting tools and/or a welder before. I pitty those who think the unibody can not be built.

Obviously I knew it had a uni-body. Did I ever once say I was going to unbolt the body? I plan on running a plasma cutter parrallel to the uni-body.

Looks like I will go to pirate 4x4... have fun with your cute little "budget boosts".... noobs

dude, this is cherokeeforum.com go to honda****fab.com or something if you are going to treat us like this.

jbetit 11-16-2010 02:19 PM

also, i play with a plasma cutter and a welder all the time. I am a fabricator. AND, i think you should check out the title under your user name (newbie)

xjbuilder2 11-16-2010 02:19 PM

Did I offend you? Wait, I didnt even see you post in the thread yet. You must cry at night over small things huh?

xjbuilder2 11-16-2010 02:21 PM

You nerds would take the time to do that sh1t. Did I say anything against you? Maybe you can fab. Maybe you fab up nice big toys for yourself. Who knows, who cares. The ones posting about "It cant be done" clearly only own a craftsman tool set and a ryobi cordless drill.

jbetit 11-16-2010 02:21 PM

wow, you must be a mind reader, cause that's exactly what i do at night. Your good man, good luck with pirate. sure they will bash you harder.
