Hey ArmyGrahm, good luck with your build. I'm in the same money situation as you. Getting taxes back and got the okay from the wife to use my portion to build my jeep. I am also in the Army and was stationed in Korea in the late 80's. I had a good time while there. Got to see the Olympics while there and it was very cheap.
Be sure to post up the pics as you go along.
I am also looking at the 4.5" Rough Country x-series kit. But, I have a local shop that will probably be doing my install since I know that one of my rear shocks is already welded on top and I'm going to have them mount it up so that I will be able to at least change them when needed on my own later.

Make sure you get a build thread going! I was kinda premature on this build thread I think, I mean the tax return won't even be here for another week or so, and then I'll have to wait the 2 or 3 weeks for my parts to get here
But oh well I just wanted to start one

Yeah I feel ya, I was wondering about how to get fuel there. I had a nitro truggy here but I ended up tearing it up pretty bad. But if you still have yours take it to a skate park, lots of fun

Actually I could start a build thread, I have added front and rear receiver hitches and rock sliders. But, I just haven't actually thought about it. Good idea though. Keep the information coming, you are doing a great thing.
Unfortunately I will have to spend about an extra $400-$500 to have the lift installed but, I know there will be some problems and also, I'm not quite sure how hard it will be to get all the bolts out and then get the front diff centered back under the jeep after replacing the upper and lower control arms that come with the kit that I plan on getting.

Got my lift on order today! T-case is on its way now also. I'm about to order the hub bearings and new U joints for the front as well. Hopefully they will all get here at the same time so I can just work through a Saturday or something.

Evidently there were more than one type of np231. One being a 231J (the one I have) and another being a 231AMC (the one I received). Some of the most obvious differences were the electrical connector and input spline count. So I got online and did a little research and found that most of the guts are interchangeable.
So I pulled my 231J apart and found out why my 4wd wasn't working. The chain was stretched so bad that it came off the sprocket on the forward facing out put shaft.(the one for the front axle). So I disassembled the 231AMC and took the chain and front output shaft. I inspected all the other parts and they seemed ok. So I put it all back together and sealed it with RTV. Before slapping it back under the heep me and my buddy Brian installed new seals on the front and rear output shafts. Well he tried to install the rear output shaft seal, and in doing so he broke the rear tail housing. Luckily that is also interchangeable between the two. After replacing that threw it all back under the heep and hooked everything up.
Well we had to try out the 4wd and it works awesome!
It was the first time either of us had attempted pulling apart a tcase. Ill try to post some pictures soon, my wife lost the hookup for the phone and now I'll have to go somewhere with WI-FI and try to upload them.

Anyhow, the parts list is as follows:
t-case(on order)
race seats(in mail)
RC 4.5" lift
33" tires
black steel rims
tune up kit
temp sensor
front wheel bearings
roof rack
lights
hi lift

Issues already addressed:
brakes
water pump
thermostat
radiator

So far my biggest issues has been getting parts, so VENDORS HELP ME OUT!
I have problems because I'm in the Army, currently stationed at Camp Casey S. Korea, so I need to find someone who will ship my lift to my APO address, wheels and tires too possibly.
This is her as of now

I'm sure about 82% of everybody on here has to get approval from the BOSS (wife) before we do anything. I know I did.

Thanks! I really needed a new driver set. When I'd hit the gas the seat would fall backwards because the seat was busted. While I was waiting for these to get in I'd just wedge my sons car seat behind it to hold it up

Actually there is a couple over here. One is a right hand drive, I never see anyone around them so I'm not sure if there American spec or not, but they look the same. There is also a vehicle called a Koranodo, its the closet Jeep "clone"[IMG][/IMG]

This is the older version that you see all over the place. Supposedly they have some interchangeable parts.
