Default Project Special Reserve. Diesel swap?

So I've been poking on this little guy for a while, between the other stupid things I've got going on. Basically it's a 1989 2wd SWB Comanche, and it came with a dead 2.5L. Not exactly what I want. I didn't do a teardown on the engine but based on the amount of blowby in the airbox the rings were probably taken out at some point. So that junk came out, and I'm going to jam a Mercedes Benz OM617 in there, come hell or high water.I finally had the time to string some video together so I can share it with you. Warning, the video is 18~ minutes long.

Should be an interesting build.
I did a 1.9 TDI in mine a few years ago and its fantastic. Tones of power and almost twice the fuel economy of the 4L.

Yeah, I really considered the TDI. There was a cheap Jetta with a bad tranny for sale, and I eyed it up and went back and forth until somebody else bought it. It's the only cheap Jetta I've seen, all the other TDIs (not just Jettas) go for way too much here. I think the TDI would be a lot cheaper to do the actual swap portion of it, there's just something about how ridiculous the Mercedes engine is makes me smile.

It's like a fine whisky, it's only going to get better with time. Or it's going to take a long time to make, but it will be worth it.
