Default Project Purple

Started life out as a 1997 Cherokee sport with 160,000 miles. 4.0-aw4-231 with HP30 and Chrysler 8.25.

Here is it stock with some roof sliders

Notice the smashed the rocker. Definitely not a trail I should have taken.

Got a good deal on a set of 1971 Early Bronco axles, Dana 44 lp front and 28 spline 9". Axles came with the steel wheels and 31" tires. Welded up the front diff and installed them with cross over steering and Heim joints. Wheeled it like that for a little while, then broke both front axle shafts.

Heres a vid-

After all of that I got a little happy with the sawsall and upgraded to 35" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws.

Wheeled it like that once, broke another shaft and hated the tires. So i sold the tires and bought some BFGs on 17s and upgraded to Yukon 4340 Chromos with Spicer joints.

oooo shiny

Also decided that i became a hack with the chop top so I decided to spruce it up a bit. And this is how it currently sits.

It got pretty beat up on this trail. This is the newest trail at Rocks and Valleys in Harrison, MI.

Bent the steering up pretty good on that trip. Now I am going to pull the axles out build some trusses for them and finish up the cage.

They prevent you from smashing the drip rail and roof.

I used them quite often on that trip. I also knew I was going bigger with the Jeep, just didn't have all the parts gathered up for the axle swap at the time.

Oh ok I think I'm starting to understand now. If you bumped a tree or obstacle it didnt smash them lol I was thinking in the terms of roll over lol sorry for the confusion

Correct, just a rub rail. Although it could be tied into an internal cage for added strength.
