Project Penny- 94 2 door DD

Just bought this last week and decided to start a build thread on it. I wont be doing anything major at least not right now. I named the jeep Penny because I dont have any money left over so this is a ultra slim budget build. So far I fixed the center console hinge and latch and some other random stuff. Next week I am hopefully going to start working on the rust in the floorboards and maybe some of the rust in the roof. I may also see if I can pick up some used tires for the back.

Theres my rust hole in the roof. I am going to see if I can get a clipping of a junk cherokee and have it welded in. I have a welder but its a stick welder and would burn right through this so I am just going to find someone to weld it for me and I will do the rest of the work.

Plans are just to get it as nice as I can for a DD and then when I get money lift it 3 inches and throw some 31s under it. Any ideas are welcome especially ones concerning extra measures when repairing the rust.

Yah! That looks familiar! A little lift and tires go a long way.

wow thats pretty similiar. I like it wish I had the dough to spend on that right now.

Not very exciting but I bought these from a JY near me. They are 98 Grand Cherokee seats. My father and I are in the process of modifying them to not only fit in my jeep but also to fold forward like the originals for access to the rear seat. Gotta love 2 doors. I also bought a woodgrain dash for 10 bucks. I like it alot.

Plans for right now include going back and getting the center console and 60/40 rear bench from the same ZJ to finish the look. Also I want to get the better armrest to swap in.

Yah, those seats are nice (same as my '97 ZJ). Let us know if they bolt right up or what. If you're feeling froggy you should do a write up on the swap!

I am going to do a writeup. They DO NOT bolt in. I am going to make a floor adapter for the front and new seat studs in the rear. Right now I am working on getting them to fold forward to work in my 2 door. Its a DD so all of the comfort stuff will be done first.

Got the ZJ front seats in. This pic only has one in but both are in. I also installed a rear soundbar that I need to take pictures of.

Looks good man! It would be cool to install a second lap belt to use just on the trails (seeing how you have 2 plugs now, haha)

Yeah I really need to pull that other one out... Coming up on finals week so I probably wont pull that out until after. Also taking summer classes so will not have much time or money to spend. However, next I am going to put a rear ZJ seat in and possibly the center console as well. Debating on grabbing the rest of the ZJ seat belts and ditch the old XJ ones. Lots of stuff to do and no time.

Not that anyone cares but I fixed the hole in my roof. I have also finished the front seats, added a rear soundbar, fixed the rear wiper and sprayer(Well it sprays but out onto the car behind me instead of the window), and fixed the A/C. I changed the waterpump, heater control valve and all the hoses as well. Here are pics of the repaired roof.

I cut out ALL of the infected area leaving two HUGE holes one 6x5 and one 4x12. I used thick aluminum flashing to fill the majority of the holes and bondo to finish. I am not entirely done with paint as I have one nickel sized area I still need to work on on the other side.

I built this and thought I would put it in my build thread. It even has cup holders. Tell me what yall think.

Thanks I took it slow and it took me almost a week. It was a serious PAIN. Everything else in comparison so far was like a drop in the bucket. It wouldnt have been bad but I wanted it to look like it never had any rust there.

Is that just some random shift knob or do you really have a 4sp?

tuxfan212 06-22-2010 09:10 AM

Ha yes about that. It is a 5 spd. The knob came with the jeep when I bought it. It is way oversized and it is threaded over a metal shim to hold it on. I did find a JY original but it was busted so I couldnt use it.
