K, so I don't have a creative name for my Jeep. Ha, I just call it "The Jeep"


Anywho I will post pictures from oldest to newest and then try and add comments and brief instructions on things I do from now on.

The latest addition is neon injectors installed today 3-15-10

Injector install
 

Tools needed
1. Deep well 10mm socket
2. Ratchet

Time: 20-30 minutes

First start with removing the 4 10mm bolts holding the rail to the intake

Then remove three 10mm bolts holding down the throttle cable bracket to the intake and disconnect the cables from the throttle body using a flat blade screw driver and lightly prying on them. Move assembly to other side of engine

Disconnect breather from intake and move out of the way

Put new O-rings on injectors!!!!!! Very cheap insurance

Before removing fuel rail, bleed pressure from the rail using the schrader valve

Carefully remove the harness from each injector and make sure to note which harness went to which position (note where I placed mine). Then carefully rock the fuel rail front to back to loosen the injectors from the intake while gently pulling the rail away from the intake.

Next pull the injectors out of the fuel rail by removing the clip nuts and pulling the injector straight out while twisting ....this may require some effort and some wiggling. I got lucky and mine popped right out. Make sure to dig any old O-rings out of the rail and intake (they like to stay in there)

Next lube up the O-rings on the new injectors.

Then reinstall the injectors into the rail (this my require some wiggling as well) and install the clips. Reinstall the rail into the intake manifold and press firmly to ensure the injectors are seated in the intake. Then reinstall the four bolts and the throttle body cables and bracket, reconnect the breather and your done.

I followed this video and made my own injector cleaner


Had to modify a little but same idea. Once installed I am also going to run a few cans of sea foam through the tank just to clean any left over. Thanks for reading!!! Let's see how they do!

yea that was the water line on a hole I went through.....almost lost that one.....a few inches deeper or to the side and you can see it would have been in my intake

yeap it was almost a doozy, hows them injectors workin out for ya?

just installed them a few hours ago. Just filled the tank. Haven't driven it any further than a few miles. Tomorrow will be highway driving to work and class. Driving to the gas station felt good though. I only paid $15 for a set of 8 shipped off ebay. One set looked brand new and the other needed a little cleaning.

neon injector's as in Dodge Neon injectors? If so what year Neon and what is the benefit? Thanks.

Do a search for injector swap and take a look at a few of the posts that pop up.
Better gas mileage and smoother idle are the benefits as well as quicker throttle response.

K, so my little brother just suggested a name and I like it so it shall be.... Project Free Candy..... beware kiddies

nice jeep. Creepy name, or creepy brother...but nice jeep. lol I like it!

ha ha, yea, hes 15 so.... I think its pretty creepy as well. Better than any other name I could come up with. I am about to rebuild the axles so they may get painted some funky color.

Nice looking XJ so far, love the color and awesome picture of the "war paint". Planning on doing the neon fuel injector install so as well :)

Thanks for the comments. The war paint came from a mud hole that about ate me alive. Update on the injectors...I have gained about 1 mpg combined with mid grade fuel. But the idle is far better and the acceleration is a lot better as well...no more hesitation.
