Project "I'll keep this one stock"

I do have a little background on Jeeps, this is my old wrangler, 2002 TJ 2in lift, 35s, 8.8 rear end with 4.56 gears

Well I picked up my first cherokee for $700 back in November just to have a little winter beater, all it needed was an ignition switch so I got it on a trailer and back to my house to get the steering wheel off. Not to much wear in it other then the drive seat for it being a 1992. It had about 160,000 miles on it and it has the 4.0 in it.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...1c4ab53585.jpg

Once I got it up and running I decided I wasn't really a fan of the stock radio so I threw in a Kenwood head unit

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...07ef68d0bf.jpg

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...80c7359578.jpg

I was doing my daily looking on craigslist and ran across a set of 5 spoke wheels with some pretty worn 31's on them so I went and picked them up

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...ff7068c9ab.jpg

I decided to fit the 31s on the jeep as it sat, so I ripped the flares off and started doing some trimming

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...e0cd9afa28.jpg

This was about the time I decided I couldn't keep a Jeep and have it stock, so I started doing some tinting to the lights and decided I want to paint the whole Jeep orange, so I started with the grill to see if I would like the color.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...4a48d8b250.jpg

and since I had a wrangler for a few years I really wanted the feeling of driving with no doors so I took the front two off

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d170773f91.jpg

Shortly after the doors came off I realized I should get rid of the carpet and bed line it incase I ever get caught in the rain. This is where it got fun and I didn't know what I was getting myself into. RUST.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...94e1bb917c.jpg

Well Im still in the process of finishing the floor board, I got all new metal welded in where the rust holes were, just finishing the last few layers of paint so as soon I get it finished pictures up. But during the big floorboard ordeal I realized my old winch was sitting in the corner of my garage and it wouldn't look half bad on this jeep so I bought some 1/4 metal and started fabricating the front bumper

Other then that my future plans are chopping the back hatch at the rear quarter glass, making a roll/exo cage, painting the jeep orange, 3in lift and 35s. Axles and suspension with soon follow just haven't figured out my plan on all that yet.

Buying it built isn't always bad though, my old wrangler had a 2in lift when I bought it

Well I finally actually finished my floorboard project, metal welded in on the passenger floorboard (yes it doesn't look that great I just used spare metal and a 90 amp welder) and I got it all bedlined.

My dog really wanted to go for a ride in it so we went on a drive since I hadn't drove it in over two weeks

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...17c4b72e7b.jpg

Then I finally got the back doors off, back windows out to prepare it for the next step

annnnnnd I cut the hatch off

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...335998c187.jpg

but as of today I am in the process of sanding it down for paint my goal is to have it all painted within the next week or two

over the past week I have managed to pick up a set of wheels off a newer Jeep, not sure if I am gonna put them on mine or turn around and resell them

Its really not that hard just 3 cuts, the two pillars and the top!!

jbwright23 05-08-2016 08:03 PM

I got the paint started, the last coat of clear coat is drying right now so once I get it all back together I'll have a picture of it finished but for now heres some pictures of the first coats and the primer. This was my first paint job I've done so don't expect it to be that great

Here's an update on the little progress I made this summer. Got a set of 33s for it and a tail gate net, my dog loves riding in it so far!

Jalebate 09-03-2016 09:03 PM

did you put some unibody stiffeners on it?
