I put it on the Jeep because I found it. It has been used as a safety chain for our trailer though.
Haha, that's cool... I knew there had to be a reason to actually leave it on all the time rather than just a trailer chain extension.

So, I learned something about Cherokee gas tank skids: they're not interchangeable between generations. That sucks.

Also, in the process of removing the hitch, I broke two bolts and lost a third so the hitch is off temporarily. I needed nut serts anyways to mount it properly instead of using individual bolts and washers. Those are on the way.

I still haven't gotten my PAC springs. They're going to ship next week.

Wiring for the OBA isn't finished. Thoughts on running the power and ground threw the cab? Any suggestions otherwise?

Pic for attention. Maybe I should paint the Ravines gold haha!

Your ground, optimally, should be as close to the accessory as possible for a good ground. So don't worry about running that through the firewall. As far as the power wire, if you use a relay, all you'll need is a small gauge power wire running through the firewall to the relay. You can "piggy back" your switch power off of the ignition source in your fuse panel.

Thanks for the tip man! I'll have to rig up some sort of relay box.

So, these FINALLY came in.

Yep! 33x10.5 KOs. Not my favorite tire, but those are my favorite factory wheels. I'm going to have to do some trimming and upgrade my bumpstops.

Any time!

Don't forget to run your steering stops out a bit.... unless you're running wheels spacers, those are probably going to rub your control arms on the factory wheels.

Congrats on the scores!

Sweet rig! It's like the two-door version of mine. 99s are the best years of the second generations. That thing should be rock solid for you.

Mine is a factory 5 speed truck. It's cool and all but the AW4 is a pretty good automatic. Other than the transmission, shifter and pedals, I'm not sure what you would need for a swap. I think the crossmember is different and I know the trans mount is different. You'll probably need a new driveshaft. When I did my SYE, I had to get Jeep's longest driveshaft and lengthen it still. You might even need a new ECU - or deal with not having a shift light haha!

Welcome to Cherokee Forum by the way!

Thanks for the welcome. From what i have read it would be cheaper to buy a whole swap rig and swap everything. But its really hard to come by a 4x4 5 speed in central florida. I didnt even know they made a 4x4 5 speed but on the 2001 i cant find anything anywhere on it. I need to figure something out soon its already got 285k miles on it. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I think overall a 4x4 5 speed is hard to find...
I got lucky I trade my 4 door auto for a 2 door 5speed...and I picked it up in Cape Coral....
I seen a 98 2wd 2 door 5 speed by central Florida that it'll be easier to convert to 4wd than trying to swap yours from a auto to manual...

Whelp, the rig has changed. No longer am I on little 31s. I'm a man now... on all terrains... counter-intuitive I know, but whatever.

Last weekend, my buddy Cody and I swapped axles for his D30/8.25 combo with Yukon 4.11 gears, and Spartan lunchbox lockers front and rear. They're in great shape with no pinion noise, smooth gears, MOOG wheel bearings and ball joints, and homemade control arm skids.

While we were at it, we bolted up a set of Rubicon Express SuperFlex adjustable upper and lower control arms, Bilstein 5100s, and 4" PAC 250 lb progressive springs.

Tires are now 33x10.5x15 KOs on Grizzly wheels with 1.5" Alloy USA wheel spacers.

I won't lie. I love this thing now even more than I did before. The handling is crazy sharp despite the height and the gearing is a great blend between torque and economy. The front locker is a bit interesting to get used to but it's no daily driver. Well, it is right now as it's my only car. Sold the Civic.

Taking it wheeling one last time before I move to Rochester in June.

You have a very close setup as I do now. It's great. The front locker should be invisible in 2wd? Is it not disengaging?
