Project green gremlin (maybe?)

Well I see all these other build threads so thought Id join the fun. Its a 1994 ZJ 4.0. Not going crazy on it (yet) something I can drive to work and still have fun on the trails. Plan on doing a 3 inch lift (BB?) and some 31s, a decent cb set up, and go from there. Thinking "GREEN GREMLIN" because well its green and its full of gremlins so why not. Plus it sounds kinda cool. So here is what i have done so far.

New PCV valves

New radio

New interior lights and led dash lights

New headlights

Bedliner headliner

New 160 degree tstat

New temp gauge

Next up, get it in my shop and put new bearings in the front differential so that i have 4x4, then probably a rebuild because its got alot, ALOT of miles on it and it sounds like a dang diesel. Also have got to get new wheels cause these are ugly as sin IMHO. Pics to come soon

Man dark green ZJ's are the ugly step-child of jeeps lol, it has potential though. Enjoy

JSJJ388 09-13-2016 03:04 PM

What are you talking about?!?
Doze rimz are the dope shizz!!!

Yeah, get rid of 'em.
Other than that, its got potential.
Welcome to CF. Looking forward to your progress.

JSJJ388 09-13-2016 08:18 PM

Yea I hate em. Thanks.

Just bought a cobra 29 cb radio. Who on here makes those mounts everyone is talking about?

JSJJ388 09-27-2016 05:59 PM

Put in my new headlights and finished up my cb. Put it on the roof and ran the coax through the frame t the top and the wires down behind the plastic. Loving the mount from @thatxjguy even it did require some custom installation. Works great though

Saw someone else with their cb here but my cobra was too big. So i swapped it for my uniden that was in my dodge.

Ran the wire back through the frame. Perks of not having a headliner

This weekend I put some 31x10.50s on it. Love the way it looks now. Have the bumper off currently cause I can't decide how to trim it. Then Sunday I put new bearings and seals in the front differential and put my driveshaft back in. Took four hrs from jscking it up to test drive. No more roaring. All I hear is those 31s. Whoever worked on it before did not crush the crush sleeve at all so that was the issue. Now I just need to do my BB lift and get a door that matches.

Over the past two nights my buddy and me put in my 2" BB lift. We had an absolute blast doing so. I have worked on cars and trucks alot but never done much suspension work so we both were learning. He had never done more than change a tire or his oil. Despite the fact that I had forgotten the instructions back at our office we started. It was all pretty self explanatory, drop the suspension, insert spacers, hook it back up!

We got it pulled in the shop and got the back wheels off

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...0f3f997d26.jpg

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...6af512713f.jpg

Got the back spacers in no problem at all. The entire process took about an hour.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...5d1f59d746.jpg

First wheel back on the ground after the lift

Next we started on the front end

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...1651375b9c.jpg

Got the passenger side spacer put in but when we went to put the spring back on we could not compress it enough by hand. Its at this point we realize that the spring compressor we thought we wouldnt need was our only hope. It is now 2030 and the parts store (20 mins away) closes at 2100. Off we go to get the spring compressor. We get back at 2115 and pick right back up with it. Passenger side went on fine with no more issues at all. We get to the drivers side and everything goes to you know where in a hand basket! The doggone spacer wont fit on the bumpstop. So we set down to figure this out. We remember that the passenger side rear was pretty loose so ok we will jack that back up and swap them. So we jack up the rear passenger side and remove everything again. The Gremlin is on 2 jack stands and one jack with only one wheel on the ground. Not fun. We get everything swapped out and back together. Try that spacer on the drivers side front, NOPE, still wont fit. Ok, time to customize it. I find a dremel tool with a flap wheel and commence to go to town

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...26de13e2d6.jpg

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...d1a1feeb0b.jpg

I would grind on it for a few minutes then we would try it again. This went on until 2300. We decide it is time to call it a night because he has a 40 minute ride home and we both have to be at work at 0800.

The next day we head back to my shop to finish up. He has brought his dremel which is better and also a better cutting wheel. 15 minutes in and the spacer is on. We reassemble the front end and take her off the stands.

Back it out into the drive way and its time for a test drive.

I will post the pictures of our ride when he sends them to me. But I could not be happier with it. I have my full turn radius back and I could not make my tires scrub no matter what I tried!

JSJJ388 10-12-2016 10:49 AM

Here are the pics from the test drive. The Gremlin looks great, the problem is the nut behind the wheel!
