Project Glacier

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the forum here with only a few post but figured i would share my XJ journey as the others have before me. Looking through these builds have given me quite a bit of inspiration and will defiantly put a dent in my wallet. So anyways heres the rig, i plan on building an overland style Jeep because this is my DD. I found her on CL and paid $3500. 97 Jeep Cherokee Country 4x4. The interior and exterior are nearly flawless other than not enough car washes and dirty carpet. The Jeep was owned by two separate ladies from a small town in TN until i gave it a home in NC.

Anyways step one was to get it cleaned up while battling electrical issues.

The engine compartment had a nice coat of oil pretty much everywhere, they called it rust proofing lol.

Thats better

After winning the fight with the electrical issues I ended up with a new Optima red top, new alternator and all new 4 AWG wires for the starter, alternator, the distro box and all the grounds as well. I would have loved to get the wire kit from user 5-90 on the NAXJA forum but i couldn't wait.

Since then i changed the oil with shell rotella 10-30 and through on a wix filter. Found a guy on CL who bought a donor XJ for the engine and is parting out the rest. I picked up a drivers window regulator, passenger door lock actuator and all four door panels. Mine were in awesome shape but the carpet look of the country model had to go. Lucky for me that donor was an 01 limited.

Are those door pockets?! I've never seen those before on a Cherokee!

This last weekend was spent on the interior. I couldn't stand watching my headliner flap in the wind any longer. I have to thank Bleepin Jeep for all of his awesome videos. I never like going in blind so you gotta love youtube. I used foam backed headliner fabric from Joanne's and some black flannel type fabric from walmart because the foam stuff was way to thick for the sun visors.

Hard to tell but the whole passenger side is hanging.

getting the liner out isn't to bad, make sure you have a Torx T-50 bit for the seatbelt mounts.

I don't care for the cloth and light grey personally. Dyed the carpet black, black seat covers, tint, and black headliner is the way to go.

Made a trip back to the donor jeep for his key fob (now i have keyless entry!) sun visor cause i broke mine taking it apart (i don't think jeep intended them to come apart) and the overhead console. My map light was broke. ( if you plan on taking any of that overhead console apart bring a T-10 bit)

I was gunna try to do something with that carpet on the panels but its like melted plastic riveted on the back and i decided that wasn't gunna be messed with lol. Tint is in the near future with summer closing in quick.

the key to the visors is cutting the fabric so you can get to the clips with a screwdriver. Also, I used black bedliner on the mirror flaps and my dome lights so they would match the black Attachment 288505

The future
3 inch lift I'm leaning toward zone offload.
A complete fluid change on everything.
New Alpine deck and speakers
New steering
ball joints and tierod ends
new rearend (have a 8.25 lined up if i can get lifted before he scraps his donor jeep)
and whatever else pops up of course.

foreman05 05-18-2016 10:38 PM

I really like that! i might have to paint my vanity mirrors

tint is amazing in the summer, personally I have trouble driving cars without it because it hurts my eyes and it burns my skin to be in untinted cars. I love tint and will tint every vehicle I get. Attachment 288507
