Project "Dudebuddy"
Just a quick post with some before and after pics of my latest XJ build. I picked her up for dirt cheap last year after returning from overseas. When I headed back out, I began to stockpile parts here, there, and everywhere. I do need to thank a few people:
Huntingman2706217 for the 44 and cleaning it up for me. Also for building the rear brakes. Andy at Ironman4x4fab.com for all of parts on this build. His stuff is super stout and he's just a great guy to deal with. Also for building the perfect straight trackbar to finish off the axle. Good luck with the baby Andy! Mark at Detoursusa for always being an assclown when I break stuff and for being a good friend. This is my 2nd set of these bumpers from Mark and he has yet to let me down. Midas in San Antonio for getting me set up with a new Flowmaster, A/C, and steering box at the last minute before my drive back up to the East Coast. Dirk at DPG for getting me set up with the OME parts. Chase at East Coast Gear Supply for having a 4.56 gear set on the shelf on my way down to GA. My girl Trigger (avatar pic) and my best friend Sara. Trigger for putting up with the XJ in general and Sara for letting me stockpile crap at her house and driving me down from VA to GA to pick up the heep. The dude with the red truck-boat-truck at Sixditch for hours of laughs. Last but not least to Kevin and Nathan at Sixditch Enterprises in Atlanta, GA. Over the past few months, I've worked with these guys on this build. Not only does Kevin own the shop, but he and Nathan have become good friends...see the brief break in the pics below for an explanation. When I got her back to TX last year: https://img64.imageshack.us/img64/8155/34045064.jpg https://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3622/51653387.jpg Leaving San Antonio. Parts list is at the bottom of the post. Installation took a few days. We took our time and ran into constant problems, since she was a northern XJ. The surface rust from road salt underneath wasn't horrible, but there were a lot of broken bolts that snagged us up: https://img818.imageshack.us/img818/5113/img0132sd.jpg https://img810.imageshack.us/img810/6204/img0133zo.jpg https://img39.imageshack.us/img39/5745/22708016.jpg https://img860.imageshack.us/img860/8185/26510011.jpg https://img847.imageshack.us/img847/5646/21129968.jpg https://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9388/img0140zo.jpg https://img843.imageshack.us/img843/8110/img0169gt.jpg https://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6496/img0180sm.jpg https://img155.imageshack.us/img155/632/img0185nf.jpg https://img801.imageshack.us/img801/2729/img0188cu.jpg https://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4759/img0197l.jpg https://img805.imageshack.us/img805/5378/img0193x.jpg Some mandatory flex pics. Right around Chapel Hill, my Hack and Tap decided to spit the bolt and my SYE became...well.....a slip yoke again. I was dead in the water. One quick call to Sixditch, and Kevin and Nathan were enroute with tools and a new TC with an Advance Adapters HD SYE installed. If a 5 1/2 hour drive in the middle of the night doesn't scream customer service, I don't know what you'd call it. Thanks for Sheetz for letting us do the swap in their parking lot. Cool build and a great story on some awesome jeep comradery people.
yeah a 5 hour drive for them is 100% insane even in my book. But that's how the guys at that shop are....
Wow nice build dude!!! Someones got money... seen your pics you on Detours FB a week or 2 ago, & was kinda hoping/waiting for a build to surface. Nice work bustin it out in such little time! how long had you been pileing parts for it, & how much into it thus far?
I'm fraid to look at the receipts but I started piling parts at the end of last year. I figure after 295 days of rockets, mortars, and getting shot at...I deserve to blow a bit of cash....lol
I've bought a few sets of Mark's bumpers and will never buy anyone elses.....his $hit is stout... |
You don't have to tell me, I run both his backbone & tailbone systems!!!
Whoa! This is sick.
