Project "Cheep Cherokee"
This is my first time doing any work like this, especially on my own. I've helped a few friends do their backyard mechanic work, including pulling and minor rebuilds of an engine and trans from a late 90's Firebird. I've done some minor wrench work at a buddies shop, but always had "supervision."
I picked up my 1987 Cherokee knowing it had issues, including a little corrosion on the floor boards. I got it for $900, and got tons of good parts with the truck. I intend to fix as much as possible and learn what I can along the way. So as long as my images load to Photobucket, I'll post up what I've done so far. All feedback is appreciated, I'm shooting in the dark and would love to know what I'm doing wrong and what I should do differently. My "temporary" solution...
Attachment 394292 Remove the floor mats and you get the real story! Attachment 394293 Is that the bottom of the floor mats? Nice... Attachment 394294 Passanger side was obviously worse. Attachment 394295 The seat bracket bolts soaked in PB blaster to help make it easier. Attachment 394296 |
Holy crap, I thought mine had rusty pans.
Good luck to you. I've actually been having a lot of fun on my rust repair job. |
Yeah, she's nasty. But she's got plenty of life left in her. Its moving a bit slow right now, partly cuz I'm helping other friends do their projects, mostly because I'm lazy.
I've almost got the entire passanger side ready to get new pans welded in, but I hit a snag. It got cold all the sudden here in Milwaukee, so I've gotta paint the exterior before I lose the ability to do so because of the weather. Black with factory maroon racing stripes. Opinions? |
I say Black with white stripes or blue

nice custom passenger side drain holes

wow that has even more rust than my '91! that looks like it came from up here in the NE rust belt lol
what are your plans? gonna DD this pig or just trail rig it? |
She's a DD until something craps out that costs more than $200 in parts to fix. Then she's donating organs to my other project, the 1998 TJ.
At which time I'll start another XJ project! :D |
Take plenty of pictures as I will be following this! I knew the floors had a little bit, but it looks like the PO bondoed/fiberglassed over some of the rust spots that I am discovering in the trunk...

Dunno what pics my fiance posted as I can't view them on the work computer. Hopefully tonight I'll remember to post a few more.
I would like to have the front half of the passanger side done by the end of the weekend. If I'm successful I'll post pics of that, too. |
