Project "Cheap Jeep"
So back in February I found a $700 94 xj on craigslist that said it had a knock in bottom end. I decided that I would go check it out and without hearing the knock or trying to turn it over due to a foot of snow on the ground I offered $500 and the jeep became mine. When I returned with the trailer I decided to bring a battery and see if she would fire up. To my surprise it started up easy and did run with the promised knock. I decided I would get her home and pull motor to rebuild. This is where things got interesting. After pulling the engine noticed that there was a large hole in the side of the block. Guess my hopes of just some worn bearings were cast aside. After another craigslist search I found a motor for $200 that the guy said ran but he couldnt get it timed. After inspection I noticed that the timing chain was loose as my first wi.....nevermind that. So I decided I would tear this motor from a 92 down and check bearings to see if full rebuild was necessary or if i could just reseal for time being. Everything checked out and I began to reseal the motor. Now Ive been at a stand still for the last few months putting the motor back in. My goal now is to get motor back in before snow starts to fall here in South Dakota and maybe get her into the hills before the trails close. So there is my February to September run down. I will try and keep posted as I go.

Yeah my FJ is definitely my baby! I got this XJ because I want to do my FJ from ground up but the parts are so expensive and I don't want to cut any corners with it, so ill prolly wait till I buy a house to start tearing it apart so I don't have to rush it. The FJ is a 1971. I think the rubber floor idea is would be pretty cool. I wonder if its cost effective to buy a roll of rubber and make you own? I think I may Raptor Line my interior and do Carpet just because i like the look of Carpet.

So after fighting with the "new" engine for two hours to get to this point I couldn't get the engine mounts to line up. I decided to take one more look at the mounts on the "new" engine and on the engine that was originally in the jeep and low and behold the mount off the left hand(driver side) of the motor was different. Now not only am I wishing I had just swapped the mounts while both engines were sitting side by side, but I also have to hope I can get the engine high enough to swap them out without completely pulling engine, trans, and transfer case all the way back out. FML

Haven't done an update in a while but have been driving the jeep since early October. Found out that the lifter I was hoping would pump back up is indeed collapsed so will be pulling head back off and replacing all lifters and pushrods in spring. For now I have pulled the rusty rims off to sand blast and paint black. pics to come.

Wheels
Got my wheels all sand blasted and painted. I will say the rusty rims were pretty easy to blast, while the one rim that wasn't rusty other than surface rust was a PITA. Took me a full day to get them done and here are some before and after pics.
