project canadian bacon

Hey everyone, brand new to 4x4 and obviously Jeeps. I have a 1991 Jeep cherokee laredo I picked up for a wicked deal - $400 and a case of bud lime. Ive always wanted a cherokee to make it my own. Nows my chance, not too skilled in automotive tech, more so aircraft tech now im trying to branch out i guess you can say.

I got it running very strong at 209km. its got some sag in the rear end, couple bumps and bruises but will be fixing that soon! hopefully before the snow falls here in western canada.

I wanted to change everything myself a.s.a.p for my own well being knowing that I did what needed to be done regardless how recent things were maintained. Drained all fluids and replaced them, just gotta do tranny and transfer case. New belt, plugs/wires/cap/rotor, hoses. Had a VERY bad loose steering knuckle, thanks to huntingman I resolved that issue and its good as new minus the broken center "Jeep" cap. Changed the brake pads/shoes rotors and drums. Added some engine system cleaner and fuel system cleaner.

Recently it would crank but not start, figured out it was the CPS so Ive got that on order right now and am keeping myself busy with it until it arrives.

What im doing now:

Tearing off the rocker panels/ sanding them down and affixing some ezliner and apply some diamondplate along the sides for the extra "ruggedness"

Wiring up 4 baja's on the roof and figuring out how to do it (i hate wiring)

Ive got some custom front and rear bumpers in the works right now which Ill share with you when I am done with them! Im excited to see how theyll turn out.

Gathering material to make myself one of those EMT conduit cargo baskets because there is no way Im dropping $200+ on a pre-fabbed one. Plus it gives me some alone time in the shed :icon_lol:

Now I know I cant leave this jeep stock, what Im stuck on though is that with my already sagging rear end if I would to get an AAL kit, would the current sag and 1 new leaf bump up the lift to its specified level? Or would I be better off getting a new set of leafs or building a "bastard pack". I wonder what makes I can make them off of.

Im looking at the RC 3" lift right now and am curiuos what you guys would suggest me upgrading while I have everything taken apart. What are the advantages of quick disconnects? Would I need a tc drop kit for a 3" lift? I might look to do a 2" body lift later on, I would obviously need one then Im asuming.

Im at work right now but I will add pics in the AM of my CHEROKEE:)

Looking forward to comments/concerns/queries

Cool, Im in south burnaby. I bought this to get around in the winter. My mustang doesn't work too well in the snow.

Not to bust your bubble but you cant put a body lift on a jeep cherokee because it doesnt have a seperate frame it has a unibody wich means the body is the frame. By the way its nice to see other Canadians on this site but im from Eastern Canada in Ontario

I also have a 1955 M38 Canadian Military Panel Utility. It was a communications truck, same as the ambulance. Swapped in a Chrysler 383 and 727 tranny. Everything else is stock. No rust and even has the original markings and paint.I will put up some pics as soon as I figure out how. lol. Would like to hear from the local guys in my area and do some wheeling.
