OK, well Ive been reading up on CF for months now. Im havent typically been a Jeep man before now. Ive been playing with Bronco's for several years now. Just as a short Bio I'm a deputy sheriff and in Feb. 2007 my partner of 5 years and I were in a foot chase that ended with my partner being shot and killed. After that I bought my first Bronco and used it as an exscape. It has since gone but my love of wheelin' and tinkering has not. A couple buddies of mine ride in Samurais and one of the guys found a 91 XJ and asked me if it was something id be interested in.. Well that was 3 months ago and now that taxes are back the ole heffer has a new place to live. Im planning on several upgrades but I need to study a lil more to figure out whats been done to it to begin with. Hopefully with the posting of some pics some of you guys out there will be able to help me identify some things. Here are some pics to start it off. The first two pics are when I picked it up today.

So this was 30 minutes later. Took it to a local wheelin spot, rode the creek a bit and did a lil climbing to see what she felt like, no good riding pics cause the camera was with me. Of course before I left I had to take some poser pics..

Thanks projectmayhem. So on to the specs. I dont know alot right now because I havent been able to crawl around it much yet. Its on 33x10.50's and theres a 2" spacer on the coils. No blocks in the back but Ive got no idea how much lift is on it. The sway bars are long gone, and it may be locked in the rear already. More investigation needed..... and Chad,, "Gone but Never Forgotten"

that is a good looking jeep man and good name for the build cuz the camo pattern looks like a milk cow:grin:

Dollar-Bill 02-20-2010 11:57 PM

Yes it does. Came up with that one cause my friends wife came along for the ride, and as they were pulling up she asked him if I was in the one that looked like a cow.

I think im gonna take the rubber flares off of it. The cow/camo is probably gonna be replaced with plain O.D. green. Ive got to get in the door jambs and cover the nasty canary yello that it was painted before. As I was smoking it over today I figured out that the A/C has been converted to onboard air. Ill probably clean that up a bit, run some pipe to the back and intall a tank. Lock it in the rear if its not already and take out the spacers in the front and replace with proper coils.

OK, any help here would be greatly appreciated. Ive noticed how lots of you can simply look at a pic and just about tell whats stock and whats not. Are the lower control arms stock? Well, in other words from the few pics that I took does it look like a home brew lift or an ok job, apparently the PO's spray painted everything.

xjmarc 02-21-2010 12:36 AM

Lower control arms are def not stock. Looks like someone might have replaced the CAD (central axle disconnect) with a one piece axle in the front which is good. Can't tell much about the rear leaves and I'd like to see the shackles.

x91j 02-21-2010 12:38 AM

D44 axle?

Dollar-Bill 02-21-2010 01:00 AM

Not sure if its D44 or not. Yet another thing I plan on figuring out, just wanted to drive it today instead of crawling around trying to find the stamps and tabs. Dont know enough abour the axles to be able to just look at it and tell. I'll get some pics up in the next day or so of the shackles. and yes, I was told that it was replaced to 1pc, if thats whats behind the plate on the right rear of front axle. Was told that it does away with the vaccum actuated lock.

heep92 02-21-2010 01:16 AM

Alright so maybe its just a bad camera angle, but that shot of the front steering, wheres your trac bar?

Dollar-Bill 02-21-2010 01:19 AM

lol, not a bad angle, and thats why I post pics. It was removed, P.O. broke it. I went down to the parts store and bought a stock trac bar and put it on to go riding.

Dollar-Bill 02-21-2010 01:25 AM

The best that I can tell from looking around. Its a standard d30 and d35. http://www.coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml which makes me wonder how in gonna lock it short of lincoln......
Anyone got a clue as to how much lift its got on it?
