Project: About D*** Time!
Ok kids, so the time has finally come, my 95' Cherokee 5 speed is going upwards.
I have started ordering the majority of my parts, so I will share my build list. The plan is for about 5" of lift with 33X10.50 KM2's on 15X8 with 4" bs. I already have IRO upper & lower control arms installed and I have an SYE in the garage waiting to be installed. I have to change out my front axle before I can order tires since my front pinion bearing is toast. I plan to buy a Dana 30 w/ 4.10 gears and I will just leave the front driveshaft disconnected until I can afford a Ford 8.8 with 4.10s to go in the rear. Order on 9/1 from Clayton Offroad

About D*** Time!
What the F*** is taking so long? LOL Good luck w/your build  |
Get some pics up! I'm originally from Missoula

Just gotta say that I love the customer service @ Iron Rock Offroad. I ordered this stuff on the weekend and as of 9 AM this morning I have an invoice in my email. Pretty dang good for the day after a holiday.
|
I'll get some pics up soon, I've got school in a little bit but I will snap some pics and go over the good and the bad of my XJ after I get home.

Alright, so, as promised here are a few before pics, along with a few details of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
So some of the good include that the Jeep is still running very strong with 180K on it. I recently replaced the control arms with IRO uppers and lowers. I just replace the wheel bearings ( they will be coming off and going onto a newer dana 30). Attachment 361804 The bad includes things like, lots of rattles, especially in the flip out windows and in the dash, though I'm sure some of that is due to it needing an alignment. The gas mileage for a stock cherokee is not great. I'm getting around 13mpg after doing a tune up within the last 6 months (leads me to think that maybe I need to replace my O2 sensors). Attachment 361805 The ugly: The ride...sucks. I'm talking "wum wum wum wum" and then the occasional bone jarring "bang" when I hit any sort of bump. My shocks, shot. My leaf spring bushings, shot. My pinion bearing in the dana 30, shot. My tie rod ends are actually not terrible. My brakes, shot. There are a lot of things I will be fixing on this sucker to get her running happy again. Until next time, here's a little porn of one of my first projects I did to the jeep. Attachment 361806 |

Well, box #2 is here from IRO and let me tell you, their track bar is beefy. I can't say that I'm all too surprised though cuz I have their control arms as well and they are just as comparable.
I'm headed on a road trip to my brothers wedding tonight so I will upload the pic I took of box #2 when I get there. |
Those apartments look familiar... SW Higgins & Hillview?

Came home from work this morning and took a nap, and found these guys on my porch when I woke up. Thank you Clayton Offroad.
Attachment 360850 Also** I have a 1996 Dana 30 w/ 4.10s being shipped up to my cousins house. |
Probably gonna take a trip to the junkyard this weekend to pick up some leaf packs, a driveshaft and a tie rod... and whatever else I might find when I get there

Well my Dana 30 with the 4.10s arrived yesterday and to my surprise it is very rust free! The rotors and calipers are also in really good condition, and it looks like the pads are pretty new!
I'm going to the junk yard today to hopefully pick up leaf springs, a tie rod and whatever else I can find. |
Well, apparently the junk yards around Missoula are closed on weekends... who knew. I've only been here about a year and a half.
Should I look into shackle relocation boxes at this point? I am planning for about 4.5-5 inches of lift. If I did, I would be into 1-1.5" for the boxes, 1 inch lift shackle and the rest spring... Can someone with experience chime in here? Can I just get away with longer shackles for now? |
Love the look of your Jeep in stock form, and can only imagine how nice it'll be when modified more.
Two door, 5 speed Cherokees unite! |

Two door, 5 speed Cherokees unite! Thanks man, I just wish the junkyards were open on the weekends around here, then I could actually get goin on it! |
Alright, well I put an order in to Qtec for a set of JKS shackles, an inner shifter boot, a shifter cover seal, as well as a shift rod bushing.
I also ordered a new OE shift knob from team cherokee. Going to the junk yard tomorrow after class to get my leaf springs and every thing else. |

So I found a V8 ZJ front driveshaft... didn't think it was gonna cost so much from the yard ($125). I checked around on car-part.com and it seems like that is actually on the lower end for driveshafts so... looks like I'm droppin $125 bones.

So I bought the Bilsteins from Iron Rock Offroad and they gave me a bunch of hardware of which included these.... Can someone tell me what they are for?

Rofl...those are bar pins..thats how the upper rear shock and front lower mounts attach to the jeep
|
Got it, thanks man. As you can tell I haven't replaced my shocks on the jeep...ever...
|
Those bar pins can be a ***** to get in the bushings... trick is get some hand soap and cover the bushings and the bar pins with it (bushing should already be in shock...put the bar-pin in a vice and press the shock down onto it.

Good luck with JY's around Missoula. Most of them have closed down. There is a junk yard out in Arlee, it's kind of hit and miss and the dude that runs it can be bipolar as well...

Picked up my leaf springs for the bastard pack from the jy today. They came from a 2000 s10 ZR2. Three leafs and a massive overload.
Pics to come. I am gonna try to lift the Cherokee this weekend, unless my schedule otherwise dictates. :headbang: Hopefully I won't need an excessive amount of these :drink: My shackles and all the Qtec goodies I ordered will be here Monday and the team cherokee order will be here Tuesday. |
It feels good to get all those parts in doesn't it? I did pretty much the same thing... before I left to Iraq I told my dad what I wanted and left him my card. I came home to a huge pile of parts. If I was up there I would swing by and give ya a hand. It's going to be nice!

Ok so an update...
I have been sacrificing my weekends for school but this weekend the jeep comes first. I think my springs are starting to sag a little more due to to dana 30 axle, pair of leaf springs, sye kit, random tools, and driveshaft that I have been driving around with for a week and a half or something. Tomorrow I have a test until 11am, but after that I want to get the SYE in and the rear end lifted. I got my shifter bushings and shift knob in the other day, I was gonna take pictures, but I was at my girlfriends house and the camera was at mine. It was really an easy process though, if anyone is interested, let me know and I will walk them through it. |
