Project 300

So to start off this is my 2nd XJ and i regret selling my 1st one ...

Started out with 112,000 miles when i bought it from the dealership, traded my 94' F-150 100K miles for it with a broken drive shaft and they still took the trade :w00t: ... and so the build began.... PROJECT 300 ... goal is to take the jeep to 300K miles and still be mechanically sound , its a daily driver and will probably continue to be a DD till she rolls end over end on a trail *even then , ill just rebulid it* ... goal is to be street legal :tank:

1st- she was running hot, and kept runnin hot like every other jeep out there , so after reading forum after forum and what not about heating problems i got a high flow balanced thermostat at 198 degree's from summit racing for 8 bucks, Mr. Gasket

2nd - i did the duel electric fan conversion with manual over ride switches * keys not needed but fans still run * ill get photos shortly of the fans and switches. runnin alot cooler and WAY quieter without that manual fan. but...

3rd... kept runnin hot even with the fan conversion , found out that i had a cracked radiator ... gotta love plastic end cap radiators ... found a triple core radiator that a buddy of mine had from his rolled jeep ... bought it for 100 bucks and now temp dont go over 210 , cept when im wheelin then it goes to 220 .

now temp's are solid and stable ... ive got a HUGE tranny cooler ive got to install and gonna get an oil cooler kit as well to keep all my fluids , i check the junk yards from time to time and found some good coolers, just need to install them.

.... Got 31's BFG all terrains and two weeks later put on a custom lift that me and a buddy built ... and here are what photos i have of the jeep... and ill get more photos shortly of the other things ive done.

we put a 3 inch block lift on the rear and angled it an inch to help the geometry of the rear drive shaft , turning it up to make a mock high pinion set up for the 8.25 rear end ... ill get a photo

and rather than the lil budget lift 2 inch block in the front ... we did a 3.5 inch block up front with extended sway bar links ... gonna make some quick disconnects for the front and rear sway bars... cus i wanna be flexy wexy on the trails .. .gotta keep all 4 on the ground with the open diffs :(

ive got about 60-70ft of tube, and lots of steel plate 1/4" thick ... picked it up from a guy that use to work at a mill ... for only 100 bucks !!! ... hell yeah... a buck a foot ...

well ... its a start with HUGE plans and goals ... ive got the the baby lift on *its a start* ... ive got bumpers and sliders to build, bullet proof diff guards :2guns: ... axles to build, lockers to buy ... etc... etc... till its :tank:

How do you like the BFG all terrains? I've heard lots of ppl on here saying they are really crap in the mud.

Alertmicro 09-15-2010 04:56 PM

i really like the BFG all terrains ... as far as muddin goes i can see why people dont like them cus they dont have the desirable big lugs like most mud tires do ... but i drive the jeep every day almost 100 miles, so... road noise is non-existent and when i do go out on trails they grip good and you can go straight from trail to road, and all is well, not as much sidewall as i wanted but still good enough :D

my bro's grand cherokee has them on his rig and he has gone a lil over 70K on his ... road and trails ... so overall i really like the tire, in all weather conditions.

So it's been along while since I've updated here and it was time .... Since last post I've added a heavy duty rough country steering stabilizer , Which is amazing , picked it up on eBay for 22 bucks .... Also added 100 watt spot lights on front from harbor freight , made my own make shift cowl hood from a sun visor cover and it dropped ambient temp under hood 20 degrees , I couldn't be happier with the hood , cost me 10 bucks and I don't even have to turn both fans on now unless it's over 100 outside , amazing , u can see the heat wave just flow out of hood now

Front diff skid , just pulled a cover from junkyard 15 bucks .... Cut it in half , put some 1/4 inch bolts on as a spacer from diff cover and bolted it right back on with some longer bolts .... Can't beat that 15 bucks and some labor :))

The red bar in the photo is my new track bar for 4-6 inch lift , got it off my buddy from his rolled Cherokee for 100 bucks , not a bad deal and helped with my steering issues , also got a drop pitman arm and now no more poppin commin from front end :))

Next to install is my gas tank skid and t case skid , both pulled from junkyard for 30 bucks , I love the yard there are Cherokees in every row :)

Tried to get the gas tank skid on but in the process of takin my hitch off I snapped 3 bolts and broke 2 exstensions :(( so think I'm just gonna drill all the bolts out or cut the hitch off ..... Makin a custom rear bumper anyways so I don't need the hitch anyways

Also gonna get the transmission cooler installed here in the next month now I'm not in an appartment anymore and I have a garrage to work in
