Plan for my 89 xj...
 

Well I finally came across some extra money and I've decided to finally build up my stock xj. I don't like half @ssing things, I'd rather it take longer to finish then have it fall apart on me on some trail somewhere!!! Here's what I was thinking, my only confusion is when it comes to re-gearing...I was thinking 411 since it's also going to be a street driver as well....

5.5 RE long arm kit
still haven't decided on shocks, gas or hydraulic? RE, rancho, procomp?? Mainly trail driving, some minor climbing...

411 or 456?

New header, exhaust is already finished except header, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

8.8 rear diff, currently she's got a d30 in the front, its 4x4, should I upgrade the front diff, not sure if it's worth regearing a d30 or not.

And lastly, tires..... i was thinking 33x12.50, good size for this lift, i'm willing to trim some fenders if need be!!!

I know it's a lot of info, but I'd like to get some fellow jeepers input before I drop the bucks into it. Thanks everyone!!!! :cheers:

for 5.5" of lift, you will only have to do a little trimming to clear 33's. Mostly in the corners to keep from rubbing when you are turning. If its an 89, it should have a vac. disco D30. Either swap the 2 piece axle shaft on the pass. side for a single piece (from newer D30) or do a swap. I personally think the D30 is just fine for running 33's. I'm running 35's on my D30 and havn't had any problems. Just keep wheel spin and wheel hop to a minimum while on the trail. For gearing, I would recomend 4.56's. This will get you back pretty close to stock ratio with the 33's.

before you decide to pay RE's prices, do you self a favor and take a look at rustys offroad products. I've been very happy with my stuff from them.

If it's a daily drive you want to run 4.11, this will put you back to stock ratio with 33's. If it's a trail rig then 4.56 with 33's is great, but not recommended if you want to have any gas mileage or you want to drive it on the highway.
