Old Man Emu lift???s
 

Sorry if this has been addressed before. I am looking in to OME front coils and medium duty rear leafs. Besides new U-bolts and leaf bushings is there anything else that will be necessary? I am just looking for about 2" in lift, enough for 30"s. Any help or input is helpful. Oh and I know "go bigger" will prob be thrown in there, but this a DD that is driven on the highway about 80 mile a day. It must maintain good road manners.

I have the same lift,I went all out when I did mine, but atleast put on a new steering stabilizer,also make sure and inspect everything real good while your under there. Like bump stops,coil spring isolaters and such,its better to do it all at once.

I have a brand new stabilizer, track bar, and shocks all around. I havent had the jeep long and it needed TLC bad when I first got it! So I hope the shocks will work ok, even if they Monroe Sensa-tracks. Has yours settled any or has it stayed roughly the same height?

if you are refering to shocks they don't lift a car at all. NADA

No just making sure that an oem type shock will work ok with a small lift. I know the shock doesnt lift at all.

Yes, you can use factory length shocks for only 2" of lift. They obviously will not travel like longer shocks, but you already stated you are looking for DD capabilities, so I'm assuming you wont hit too many trails. Even if you do, it'll give you a little more ground clearance. If you want to save money, with only a 2" lift you can just use a spacer and shackle combo.

I have judt heard some bad things about the shackles with wrap and what not. I see you have the shackles and spacers, have you ever had any probs. I will definitely be hitting some trails, just nothing too crazy. I started wanting to go that route, but I really want something that will last. Even though she does 161000 on her, I expect to have a long time.

I have just fitted OME Nitrocharger shocks all round and am also getting a 2" rear OME leafs with a 2" coils...you will be happy with this setup as mine is a D/D also....but like to get offroad as much as possible. with my 30x9x15 tires and rock sliders (being Built) it will go places... The ride will be great on/offroad,I have mates with this set up and they love it. I would personally stay away from longer shackels etc... and fit a proper 2 ' kit with longer travel shocks such as the OME nitros or simlar

I took my Jeep through a rocky creek run the other weekend with the standard height set up with my OME Nitros fitted and with carefull driving made it through easy... noticed both front and rears flexing better...will even be better with the new leafs/coils :thumbup1:

I have an add-a-leaf, not shackles. Honestly, I wish I went the shackle route. And I think you are a little confused about the axle wrap. Where axle wrap becomes an issue, is with blocks. Shackles are simply relocating the back part of where the leaf bolts up to the frame. For 2" of lift, a shackle and coil spacer would be a good option. If you are going to spend the money on actualy coils, and springs, at least go with a 3 inch lift. Road manners are fine with 3".. I just dont see spending the money on a "real" lift kit for only 2" of lift.

Yeah I understand the difference, but I thought I had read that shackles also were a contributing factor to axle wrap. Do the poly spacers make any squeaking noise? What about a set of Derlin plastic spacers? That stuff is fairly indestructible. They are what my frame sliders on my Yamaha are made of.

Dont have the answers you are lookin for. Just wanted to say i'll be watchin this thread intensley! I also love the sound of the OME lift- replacement rear springs and front coils. My Jeep will be a DD too and i dont wanna go higher than 2.5" but i want the advantage of the rear spring lift. No shackles, blocks or add-a-leaves. I've been lotsa places in stock XJs. And i would feel very confident with 2"-2.5" of lift and a locker on the trails! Don't mean to hijack your thread but i think we may be thinkin the same! Does anyone know of a "bastard pack" combo to achieve 2"-2.5" in the rear? That coupled with the V8 GC Upcountry front springs n maybe spacers would be sweet!:thumbup1:

My Jeep is also a DD that sees moderate off roading (no rock crawling for me). I originally went with a Rusty's 2" Shackle kit and hatted it. The rear axle had very little flexibility. The Jeep road rough and handled terribly around curves. I even lost control going around a few round abouts in the rain.

I switched to a set of Old Man Emu heavy duty rear springs and love them. I was blown away with the ride quality and the increased handling, far better than the stock ride. From highways to rugged trails it rides and handles beautifully now. I too am running stock shocks but plan on upgrading to a full set of OME shocks in the future. I believe I'm going to order a set of their front coil springs as well and discard the Rusty's spacers. You won't be disappointed with the OME lift, I highly recommend it.

U can fit 30's on a stock xj I wouldn't advise it but it works!!!
