Old Blue, 98 XJ
I picked this one up as a salvage titled Jeep only in need of a fender and a dent in the door to be repaired. It has around 208,000 miles but I got it to fix for my now 13 YOA daughter to drive in a few years. It turned out to be such a good buy my wife will be driving it till then. So we sold her Yukon. My build plan for this one is to do a budget boost of around 2 inches with the Upcountry springs upgrade and a slightly larger tire say 30X9.50 15. And a new exhaust as the funds permit.
I've been browsing the forum for several months and finally decided to post! This is the first of my two XJ projects.
The First Photo is in the Totaled state, the second is the also totaled on opposite side.
The smaller one is it waiting on the parts to be painted and the last is the dull grey trim removed still waiting on the painted parts.

Cant wait to get the new springs on it. By the looks of it the thing is sagging pretty bad. I expect it to lift up about 2 1/2". Plan on it being done by the end of April if everything works out.

Old Blue flexing on it's first off road adventure. Possibly the first time ever by the looks of it when I picked it up.
Not much of an update on the build status, other than reaffirmation on the need for slightly larger tires and a smaller 2" lift.

Time for some routine maintenance. Don't really know when the last time the previous owner changed the fluids so I figured I would play it safe and change them all. Finished the front diff. and the engine oil today. Plan on hitting the transmission and transfer case as well as the rear diff. The oil was very clean in the front diff. so I may have been fine leaving it. Whoever serviced it last had to have used a whole tube of orange RTV on the cover there was orange everywhere. I touched up the cover while it was off too. Decided to go with an oversized Wix filter while I was at it.

Plan on making a bracket for the front for this to attach so I don't rip the bumper off. Came very close to pulling it off last time I was stuck.

I also have a budget boost lift (spacers and shackles) on the way along with a set of polyurethane bump stops from. The stops are missing on the front and it is a very harsh stop when bottoming on the old springs. The cheap lift was decided so I could invest more into the other XJ to get it up and going. It will be more of an off road ride than Old Blue the daily driver. I eventually plan on ordering new upcountry springs front and rear for Old Blue and transferring the budget boost to my white one. The springs are old and sagging.

I just finished the transmission, transfer case and rear diff. fluid change. While in between the oil draining I decided I needed to trim some of the plastic trim on the front. It is starting to look more like a 4X4 instead of a street cruiser.

Looks like you are off to a good start. State of warning, once you lift it with the budget boost, you will spend every waking moment looking at how to go taller and fit 31's haha. make sure you grease up all ball joints and control arm joints. Good time to check hub bearings and ball joints. power steering change out while your at it(turkey baster method)

Recovery points installed. Made some out of some old scrap metal and hook and tie down I picked up at Agrisupply. They mount to frame under the anti-sway bar bushing and to the side of frame. I plan on upgrading the hardware to grade 8 when I go back to town.

Do you have a lot of clay where you live?
